I am befuddled by all the Digger hate, I loved it. The hate feels manufactured because it forces us to look in the mirror. Never been a big Cruise fan outside of Magnolia, but he deserves an Oscar nod, as well as Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemmons & John Goodman. Set design and costumes were stunning.

Ed Ruscha’s new poster for Alejandro Iñárritu’s “Digger,” featuring the Boy Scout Utility Modern font, which Ruscha designed himself and has used exclusively since around 1980.

Appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI in the news; RIP Chuck Varga; plus, retro synth magic, a couple of spacey+fuzzy neo-90s records, and a pair of excellent new beat tapes. A little bit of everything in this week’s Listening Habit… listeninghabit.substack.com/p/news-and-n...

News and Notes, Volume 3, or maybe 4...

A whale alphabet discovery, the latest slop updates, and glowing musical treasures from humans.

After a series of messages with folks I haven’t seen in ~27 years, the way this album made it into our lives was because Dennis from The Frogs became friends with Eddie Vedder and they opened for Pearl Jam in ‘94, which was how someone heard them on a show tape, then tracked down the CD.

Oh wow. Kinda forgot about this bizarre and wonderful record, which has been reissued for its 30th anniversary. “I’m Sad the Goat Died Today” and “Where’s Jerry Lewis” were favorites from high school. thefrogs1.bandcamp.com/album/my-dau...
