Music. Comics.

Boy Commandos no. 5 (Winter 1943) cover by Jack Kirby with Joe Simon. During WWII this was one of DC’s top selling titles. A couple decades later, Kirby would use a similar concept (ragtag, diverse group of fighters) to launch Sgt Fury & his Howling Commandos. #JackKirbyMonth

Comic writer Roger McKenzie passed away earlier today. He was 75. Roger was the main writer of Daredevil when he was assigned a young new penciller, Frank Miller. Roger showed him the ropes and handed off the writing reins to Frank with issue #168. Condolences to his family friends and fans.

Early this morning, Peepster-in-Chief Roger McKenzie passed away peacefully in hospice care. He'd been dealing with end-stage heart failure and kidney disease for the past several months. He was certain that he still had some stories to tell in the time he had left, and struggled mightily to write one last script. He loved and valued all of his comic book colleagues, his friends, and the Peepsters who supported his work. He'll be greatly missed by his wife Tami, chosen family member Catherine, and furry family members Timmy, MoJo, and Baby Girl.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON was released 45 years ago today. One of the most popular horror-comedies out there, and with groundbreaking effects work, the behind the scenes story will make you beware the moon… 1/39

Sitting in my hotel, hiding from the dramas of this great big world, Seven stories high, looking at the world go by-y. Sitting in my hotel room, thinking about the countryside and sunny days in June. Trying to hide the gloom, sitting in my hotel room.

I’m still on tour and away from home until this weekend, and I’ve run out of “new” pics of comics for #JackKirbyMonth, but I still have a bunch saved on my phone. So here’s one. The Demon no. 1, which our kitty defaced way back in 1972, but I still have it. One of my faves. Inks by Mike Royer.

Etrigan the Demon leaps from a castle directly at you! The cover has been ripped apart by cat claws and lovingly taped back together (by me when I was a kid)

I always forget about this piece. I've had this inflatable pillow from 1968 for 30 years or more (a gift from a friend). I blew it up to test it once, but it is stored flat. I was horrified today to find that it had developed some mold inside of it, thus tanking the value. I still love it.
