Political Unionism, at the behest of Bryson et al, has picked at the sorest sectarian scab of the last 30 years, to create a festering wound. Utterly depressing considering the glimpse of the future we had during the Fleadh. They only wish to drag us back. Solidarity with the residents of Garvaghy.

Thanks to Donal, Heather and all involved at Dublin Festival of History for having me speak on Rory O'Connor today. Fantastic to see so many at the morning opening session of the Big Weekend. A brilliant, engaged crowd and some great chats after. Always a pleasure.

It was so wonderful this past Sunday to be a part of the 175th anniversary commemoration marking the death of Anne Devlin. It was a great honor to speak at both the graves of Anne and her husband William Campbell and to have worked with Mícheál Ó Doibhilín's family on this.

Superb piece by Clodagh Finn in the Irish Examiner on the legacy of Anne Devlin on the 175th anniversary of her death, also mentions the late Mícheál Ó Doibhilín's work researching Anne and details of the commemoration tomorrow. All welcome. www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/colu...

Clodagh Finn: Anne Devlin was never just Robert Emmet’s housekeeper. It’s time we told her story

A new children’s book and the work of historian Mícheál Ó Doibhilín are helping restore Anne Devlin’s place in Irish history

Wonderful to be at the the launch last night of 'Cathal Brugha Remembered' in the appropriate environs of Cathal Brugha Barracks. This new free publication from the Irish Military Archives was co-edited by myself and Liz Gillis, featuring contributions by an array of researchers/historians.

It is noticeable that whenever the Irish government says it wants to become more like our European neighbours it's never about things like rent controls, tenant rights, workers rights, public health care and always about thinks like the border regime and militarisation...

Announcing the Anne Devlin commemoration this year - marking the 175th anniversary of her death - keeping alive the tradition of the much-missed Mícheál Ó Doibhilín. Do join us on Sunday, 20th September in Glasnevin cemetery at 11am. All welcome. Non-party political. No banners or flags.

Cool that the government’s kneejerk response appears to be “the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a car driving down the wrong side of the motorway is a good guy with a car driving down the wrong side of the motorway”

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.
