he/him | irish | mostly posting about rugby, women’s football and my terrible life

as we saw with Charlie Kirk it’s extremely notable that no fans of Rod Liddle include any of their favourite quotes from him in their tributes

has anyone unpacked christopher nolan casting a trans person to be the distraction sacrifice for a trojan horse to enter, and then destroy, civilization

Had to go down to Wexford over the weekend and I’ve never seen the Irish countryside looking so dead before. Hope this rain lasts for a month cuz god knows we need it

Rod Liddle wasn’t even a good writer. Those who propped him up did it exclusively because he said disgusting shit that any half decent person would be horrified by. He actively sought to upset people and then revelled in the discomfort he caused He was essentially a flasher

I don’t want my income tax cut, I want my taxes to fund functioning social services that make my life better by an order of magnitude I could never achieve on my own

A headline and standfirst from an Irish Independent article which reads: Emergency cash raided to cover €500m cost of extra public sector pay day. Health cuts loom to fill in €650m education black hole, while HSE continues to run over budget.

There are more people who've parlayed middling athletic prospects into profitable careers decrying the inclusion of trans women in sports than there are trans women in sports.

I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

a lot of what the right does nowadays is create an emotional support system for bigots. bigotry will offend and alienate people in your life, so the right looks provides a counterweight that lavishes you with praise.

Going to Comedy Bang Bang at Vicar Street tonight and I’m setting the over/under for performers doing some kind of terrible Irish accent at 2.5

Casual reminder that the original plan for Ben Shapiro's "Lady Ballers" was for it to be an undercover documentary where dudes sign up to compete in women's sports, only to find out that places that allow trans athletes to compete actually have rules and standards.

Ben Shapiro spends his entire show mocking the WNBA and its players. Including a montage his team put together of missed shots at the All-Star game which he laughs at. It's incredible how much transphobia can just let you be an open misogynist.

A fun thing about modern football is that even though FIFA are absolutely corrupt villains, I can’t exactly get excited about UEFA as saviours They’ve shown with the Super League that their main issue with privatising the sport is they want to be the ones making the money

Between the Leto story and everything else it's as abundantly clear as ever that way too many people still don't care about or acknowledge the harm many men in the public eye do to women and girls, even when it's an open secret.

TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.
