1) on a pure evidence base the US has repeatedly engaged in information operations. You can even find procurement examples to manipulate youth in Iraq. Obviously with cases like stuxnet - you know there’s milder stuff.

we have an idea for communities in the app that we're calling "spaces" — places where people can gather around shared interests or social groups. here's a peek at some early prototypes. these are explorations, not polished or final. looking for feedback, esp from community builders 👀
the bsky team is working on various ideas for creating smaller social spaces in the app. which use case is most interesting to you? 1. posting into "topics" that organize public posts 2. posting into "communities" or "groups" that can be public or private 3. posting directly to your followers only

Updateable space policy by matthieusieben · Pull Request #119 · bluesky-social/proposals
This is a suggestion that aims at allowing to change a space's policy after it's creation. The problem this solves is as follows: Say a bunch of existing spaces are created with simplespace...

I wonder what the USA LoC folks think now about having dumped their early twitter tape archive. I thought it was a reasonable call at the time (was "dark" and not getting used) but things have changed
they should invent a 3:59pm that does not immediately roll over to 7:00pm
I can't believe @groupe-sncf.com is on here and doesn't have a handle using .sncf (atproto spec intentionally would disallow '@sncf', aka the bare-domain handle. but `@tgv.sncf' or `@social.sncf' etc all work)

Introducing the AOL members 90s web site archive: aol.restorativland.org The IA backup of AOL members sites was.. not as robust as the Geocities one, but there's still plenty of good stuff here. As far as I know this is the first browsable AOL Members Archive ever. Completely unexplored territory.
Here are some flowers for the @aster.id crew, who managed to announce their launch exactly when asters hit peak purple in north america. (They're smart like that.)
Hi protocol friends! I've been cooking up a Very Large PDS (vlpds) implementation capable of scaling up to billions of accounts and down to just one. It uses Object Storage as its only state, supports HA operation, live scaling up and down, is feature-complete with the reference PDS, and is FOSS.
Overview · vlpds docs
An atproto PDS whose only durable storage is an object store. Any node serves any request, one node can run a personal server for free, and a few nodes can carry all of Bluesky's write load.

(replies disabled) even if you conclude that private conversation is more important than public conversation, you can conclude that public conversation is relatively under-resourced / under-developed. almost all tech interest for a decade+ has been public broadcast (not convo) or private convo
I'm still disappointed that Jack Dorsey limited it to public conversation. Society and democracy need private conversation to survive, not more mass surveillance. We need to design our protocols to fight surveillance capitalism not enable it. Silicon valley and the VC adjacent seem blind to this.

two follow-up threads from the Atmospheric Groups working group this past week... what NSID should be used for the lexicons? I'm personally leaning 'opensocial.group' these days. what do you think?
Atmospheric Group Terminology and NSID
As an update, the tangled repo and current version of the proposal use opensocial.group. I’m now leaning towards that name personally. It is a bit friendlier, retains more of the history of this WG a...

STAR could be the serialization format for atproto spaces! maybe! the v1 format isn’t finalized yet, so now is a great time to share feedback and help shape it!
restructured the repo a bit, took i think pretty much all suggestions, and split out the application profile and changelog bits. it's now a short spec! (yay!)
release has been released! read about it here: discourse.atmosphere.community/t/atproto-sp... including a migration prompt so hopefully your agents can one-shot the update!
