Every year tens of millions of tonnes of Saharan dust are dispersed across the globe, turning the sky orange and sometimes making the rain muddy. Step by step researchers are discovering the many ways in which dust outbreaks affect clouds, precipitation and weather forecasting systems.

Analysis of #CopernicusAtmosphere fire emissions data clearly highlights the extreme nature of the recent devastating fires in Argentina/Chile with total estimated emissions for 2026 so far (1 Jan-10 Feb) exceeding all annual totals since 2003 for Chubut province🇦🇷 & most years for Biobío province🇨🇱

Not only are more forests/trees around the world experiencing mortality as a result of increasing stressors, but recovery is impaired as a result of increasing temps, drought, other climate-related impacts. Positive feedback loop -- as forests go, so do we. 🌏
