Be excellent to each other.

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

Just saw someone pull "virtue signaling" out of mothballs and I guess it still needs to be said that hell yes I am going to signal my virtue, everyone who runs a corporation or has any amount of power in government is dead set on signaling their evil so I am going to respond in kind

Like, I would vote for Talarico still if I lived in Texas (which, mercifully, I do not). I think he is trying and failing to thread the needle. His ultimate failure is believing the needle exists to begin with. Bend to the pressure to acknowledge the needle, and you've already lost.

It's fun how we used to talk about lettuce getting insta-banished to the shadow realm as a stark contrast to nothing ever being done about gun control, then the Taylor Farms thing happens and every store in the country is suddenly all "well hold on now"

me at Hastings circa 1997: oh hey. this stuff is called I think japanimation. this is the japanimation section. neat. I wonder if there are japanimations of any video games I like. wait, what's on the "special interest" aisle? OH HELL YES

A thing I was alive for but not really old enough to be a part of was the whole era of physical media where people could buy anime on vhs, but it was like, only at Suncoast or whatever, and each tape cost something like $40 for two episodes

“this person is bad so their work was always bad” is also a really dangerous view to take because it leads to - unconscious or not - a bias towards “but I do like this other person’s work, ergo they must be a good person” which, as we have seen over and over, is simply not true

What happens a lot on social media is when someone (Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman now Ed Brubaker) has allegations thrown at them people tend to leap out the woodwork saying "their work was never good." That helps no one as it's irrelevant. What matters is their actions and what they did.

Mr. Beast literally can't divorce himself from Squid Game He gets very offended when you compare Beast Games to Squid Game Then he hires sixteen ghost writers to write Squid Games wherein he is a character in the book disguised as a contestant like in Squid Game Bro is fundamentally incurious

The Most Dangerous Game is basically just a MrBeast video in book form. The story is as follows: A thousand contestants from across the world who have demonstrated some kind of inner strength or ability are invited confidentially to an unscreened, secret Squid Game–style knockout competition that is seeking to find “The One,” a special person who is apparently going to not only win a billion dollars but use those billion dollars to save all mankind in some way. MrBeast himself is a consultant on these games, and also a surprise contestant. The whole thing is presided over by a kind of Wario MrBeast, an evil, unseen person known initially only as The Host. They battle through snake-infested forests, traverse glaciers, punch sharks in the nose, things of that nature. The games turn out to be not what they seem, and plucky young kids survive and the right person wins. The end.

When I worked for The Onion, practically everyone who visited the office would ask how they could submit headlines. This one stoner delivery guy was so persistent, we finally told him he could submit 10 headlines on spec and we'd take a look. First one on his list was "Shit and poop are Stinky!!!"

if i wrote for the onion i'd write a headline that was like "Breaking News: The president is an orange!" and then you'd click it and the article would be like "An orange-haired no-good crook, that is!" that might seem a little mean-spirited but the way i see it, i'd get a click and you'd get a laugh
