I say this with the deepest respect and worry: the moment you put a new big game in front of players, even if it’s in progress, you need to have it at least scanned by a sensitivity consultant. I’m not talking your one pagers, I’m talking the big leagues. It’s faster to lost faith than to gain it.

The problem with writing a whole fictional culture solely in opposition to the ones you’re currently in is that almost 100% of the time you end up just rewriting The Orient. A mush place where things are fantastical but also dangerous, full of untrustworthy brown-coded cutthroats. So maybe stop. 🤷🏽‍♂️

and even if BK, Walmart, Ubi are non compliant now you can bet they won't be the ones the gov't will go after. They'll fine the shit out of small businesses owned by immigrants bc let's face it this gov't hates brown people If they rly wanted to promote French, they'd offer incentives to learn it

Before Loi 96, you had to add a generic French word to your company name like Café Starbucks, instead of just Starbucks. Since, hundreds of businesses (like subway, BK, Canadian Tire) are no longer in compliance and could be billed tens of thousands of dollars until they fix their signs 3/4

You know I love games that encourage us (as players or GM) to think. Craft, be creative, strategise! It feels like some of us are turning away from that because it's difficult, and I get that. But thinking about the moves you're making in game is a great way to stop thinking about the horrors.

I mentioned before how a lot of the announcements coming out of GenCon seemed uninspired and cynical and I’d just like to follow that up by saying a fair amount of these projects (from big companies) seem to be for “everyone” and thus no one. Seriously who’s the audience for this stuff anyway?

Special stream tonight! With the cast scattered to the winds for work or leisure, I'll be solo streaming chatting about worldbuilding, game design, narrative, all that good stuff while I work on some downtime and settlement mechanics for Rust Frontiers Same time, 8:30pm EST on twitch.tv/wanderingdm

I saw someone defending a game by saying "it's doing interesting things. Do I like it? Not really, but I got to support it for that." One, you don't need to support something you don't like, actually, and two, if THAT'S the post in support I am terrified of the detractors...

Seems like there’s a lot of games now finally learning that bringing in a sensitivity consultant right at the end and hoping they fix your work is attempting to cover a chasm with papier mache. Hire us from the get. Call us a writer if need be. The dog whistles are too loud at this point. 🤷‍♂️

I think of consequence in games as kind of like fibre in a diet. If you lack fibre, you're just going to feel less full over time. You're also likely to feel hungrier again quicker. The same is true of consequence. They help those decisions feel like they mattered. Give them weight. Satisfies.
