The new PM wants to put a stop to rough sleeping - that's great news. We've got a good place to start: extending the move on period, so newly recognised refugees have time to find a home, and scrapping plans to strip people refused asylum support of emergency help to keep them off the streets.

This debt will cost people their health. £10,000, charged for support received while banned from working. The Government's debt will pressure people into unsafe work, housing, and poorer health just to pay it off. It's the same trap as NHS charging. You cannot punish people for seeking safety.

We're going to house another 2 people who would otherwise be on the street. That's a good days work.

“People are being pushed towards homelessness at the exact moment they're meant to be starting a new chapter.” IPPR research finds that too many people granted refugee status are leaving asylum accommodation without enough time or support to secure housing, putting them at risk of homelessness. 🧵

It's Tuesday so we have just got our weekly delivery of food from @stvincentdepaul.bsky.social. Last day fresh fruit, bread and (as often) some slightly past their best but still lovely flowers from Costco. All will go to people made homeless and destitute by the asylum system.

One of our Hope people has finally been granted accommodation! Our team have been working for over a month to make sure this client had a safe home. People shouldn't need our support just to access basic dignity. As ever, we call on the Home Office to do better and stop failing people who need it.

Two of our fantastic Hope people have been granted status after a long legal battle! After being refused in 2018 and 2021, they moved in to our accommodation in 2022 and our legal team started working on overturning these wrongful refusals.

We're proud to have signed this statement in solidarity with our friends at Rainbow Migration! The BBC's reporting on this puts LGBTQI+ asylum seekers at risk of real harm, in an environment that is already hostile towards them. Click through to Rainbow Migration's page to read the full statement.
