And what fortunate timing! Happy birthday Jack Kirby! His work still brings so much joy, beauty and the AWESOME to the world even today! Heh and to think I almost forgot when it's literally printed in my calendar ;)

Metron in Swamp Thing? Also... SWAMP THING CONCLUSION WHAT!
Cannot wait for more New Gods heck yeah. And Metron is in some art coming out of SDCC yessssssssss
Since spring I've been working on a little book of #fourthworld and #newgods fanart. Today it's live for pre-order! makemiskates-shop.fourthwall.com "Wandering Star" is a space themed fanzine featuring work from myself and seven others. Order cutoff is Aug 28, net profits go to Hero Initiative!
Got my copy of Orion by @ngoziu.com It. is. SO. GOOD. The story is creative, the art is wonderful, and most of all it's written with love for the characters. 100% created by a true Fourth World fan. And so enjoyable that I read the whole thing straight through last night, couldn't put it down!!!
Sneaking back onto bsky briefly to be hype about another Metron appearance in the near future!!
Truly a stunning comic all around. This is the only non-Kirby work that I consider essential reading for the New Gods.
BACK ISSUE! Magazine@backissuemagazine.bsky.social · 7mo agoOrion learns that he is NOT the true son of Darkseid. To find the truth he must speak with Darkseid himself. Unknown to Orion, Darkseid and Desaad have returned to Earth to once again play their sick, twisted games. This time they have invaded a small town in Nebraska.
Interesting stylistic choice to make his eyes red. They've been pupil-less from the early days (depending on how you interpret the art) and afaik only red once in JLA/Avengers. But this take may be the only full-eye red. I love the coloring and dark inks of the chair too!

Heheheh yeah! Ive only heard of this bc The Jack Kirby Collector touches on this in Old Gods And New. Wish we could ask Mr Kirby about this one
Mark Reznicek@realmarkrez.bsky.social · 9mo agoThe splash page from a story in Alarming Tales no. 1 (Sept 1957) by Jack Kirby. Seems to pretty obviously be a prototype for Metron’s Moebius Chair from Kirby’s New Gods book a decade+ later. Here’s it’s more of a humorous take on the concept, but it’s definitely there nevertheless.
FANTASTIIIIIIIC What is he thinking? Nobody knows...
Malachi Ward@malachiward.bsky.social · 8mo agoMetron. Ink, color pencil, digital color.
I laughed
Kilowog-core@kilowogcore.bsky.social · 8mo agoYou normies are so moded, get on my crash and schway level! What's yer current hyperfixation? (Art sampled from "Superman: The Man of Steel" Vol. 1 #10 by Louise Simonson, Jon Bogdanove, Dennis Janke, Glenn Whitmore, Bill Oakley, and Mike Carlin. Edits: Dialogue, Caption.)
Not sure if anyone over here would be interested, but I'm hosting a small fan zine dedicated to New Gods and the Fourth World. We have applications open for another week. Check it out! (details are in the form linked on our site) fourthworldfanprojects.carrd.co

This word has been grating on my ears lately. There are so many more words to use instead! It's easy! Works Pieces Creations Projects Specific words like paintings, photos, sewing, etc Or gosh even just ART!!!! 💙
Grave Soria@bitchinville.bsky.social · 8mo agoThe word “content” when applied to art is a curse word, a vile epithet in the same despicable cohort as “franchise” and “brand” in the diabolical race to turn creative expression into a soulless abstract of money and attention.
Marvel’s *other* Nightcrawler, who was also blue and also had a tail.
Friends, I got to meet the original Metron today 💙 And I brought along the first and most recent New Gods runs to meet him too
The two sister planet. im currently feeling sick so this digital painting of new genesis and apokolips was all I can muster up in a short amount of time 😅 (feel free to use as a wallpaper) #newgods #dccomics #digitslart #digitalpainting
I think Metron should temporarily join the JSA. Like just for shits and giggles. He already went on an adventure with them to take down Extant that one time, and it'd be interesting to see more interactions.
The obvious answer is Mike Grell's Cosmic Boy magnetic bustier so I'll go with my second choice: Orion of the New Gods superhero redesign by Mike Vosburg. It was what he wore when I started reading comics and I still like it, but I completely agree that Kirby's original look is far superior.
Wednesday Pull@wednesdaypull.bsky.social · 9mo agoWhat’s a comic book costume you know is terrible but love anyway? I’ll go first.
