THREAD. A lot of attention is rightly going to Medicaid cuts and other very bad things in Trump's bill passed by the House, but there's something else that isn't getting enough attention, that is very difficult to find in any news coverage, but that will fundamentally alter life for all of us.

The House Republican reconciliation bill will now ban both surgeries and HRT prescription under Medicaid for all Americans. Earlier, I posted that it wouldn’t affect HRT. This is incorrect. I was mistaken, because the bill refers to medications for trans people… as “procedures.”

This didn't happen by random chance of the market or some neutral development of technology. The game industry, like many industries, figured out how to outsource all the risks and costs of production onto the aspirational while capturing their own cut as rent. Game devs are uber drivers now.

the quickest and easiest way to open a bottle of wine is to smash it on the ground. if you don't know enough about the world to evaluate that as a bad outcome then yeah you could happily go through life that way believing you had a magic bottle opener! ai tools mostly make apparent the true issues.

This is spot on, re chatGPT cheating in college. A lot of the moral panic aspect focuses on the tool itself, as if that's the entirety of the problem. And while it isn't great, the widespread usage is definitely a symptom, not a cause, of wider rot in what the education system does to students.
