Whitby this Friday night, anyone? Regular haunto/folklore night At The Back of The North Wind returns, and I'm performing my psychedelic shaggy dog story Dreams Of Freeborough Hill. It features King Arthur, Comet Hale Bopp and the 1997 Boro team. Pay what you fancy!

Currently fascinated by the Stones' Satanic Majesties period, and how you can judge by their expressions on the cover which of the band had already seen enough of the psyche-fuckin-delic revolution to last them a bloody lifetime. In order of make it stop-ness: Wyman, Richards, Watts, Jagger, Jones.

I wake up today to find scientists are using sentient software to invent new viruses, and maverick tycoons are crashing rockets into the moon. The entire world has turned into Pertwee-era Doctor Who. I'm just waiting for that bloody spider to come out of the bathroom before I regenerate.

New issue on sale now! Blackpool's Gypsy queens; art of the Golden Dawn; golden age of flying saucer movies; Andy Burnham’s Holy Hand; Hackney goat sacrifice; when GPS goes bad; BuzzBallz booze bird; wheelie bin mysteries; Chillingham Castle; science of farts; Adolf the Swedish Dwarf and much more!

Found a spider in the bathroom last night, the size of my palm with legs like tree branches. Tried to capture it under a pint glass but it escaped into a previously-unseen hole in the skirting board that I assume it bored out itself. I'm now having every wee wearing Elton John-style platform boots.

I hope Christian Karembeu makes a sentimenal return to the Eaglescliffe Tesco, where he was frequently spotted in the early 2000s. I also once saw Alen Boksic in there, wearing double denim and buying a bunch of bananas.

Sad to hear that Raleigh is in trouble. Here's my Chopper, pictured in 1984. I bought it from my best mate Doug for £15 (he'd just got a BMX) and painted it dark blue, ruining most of my mum's best towels in the process. Dog: model's own.
