Director level producer checking in. Crunch leads to decreased, even negative productivity. It can result in higher bug counts. It can lead to burnout and increased sick days taken by your team; ultimately in retention issues. Good planning & scope management are far better tools.

I really REALLY need game devs, and especially those who are in higher up positions, indie or otherwise, to clue into the fact that crunching away for weeks or months of a time is neither normal nor something you should wear as a badge of honour.

"In the week I've spent revisiting Star Wars Galaxies, I've seen very little other excitement. I've killed no impressive enemies. I've done barely any quests. It's an MMO that's content to let me log in and do little of note whatsoever—and that's exactly what I've been missing."

I want MMOs to waste our time again

I've accomplished very little on a Star Wars Galaxies private server, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Just a PSA for all the other major publishers: You can’t make a GTA 6. Don’t have any meetings about it. Don’t put together any pitch decks. Don’t preemptively doom your workforce and the industry any further than you already have. Leave it alone.

Absolutely this. Way too many writers fall in love with their own prose. While we're at it, I have a real issue with multiple characters who end up having the same voice/vocab/sense of humor. It's pretty immersion breaking when you can identify they were written by the same dev.

Hearing about Kavinsky this morning and remembering how we actually booked him for the KIXEYE holiday party back in 2014(?) and still have video of the performance. I remember thinking what a weird vibe and mix it was for a holiday party. But he was great and it was fun.

Hi everyone, today me and 22 others at Double Fine were hit by layoffs today. All the people who lost their jobs today care so much about the games they make and the people they work with. If anyone is looking for a tools SE with 7 years of experience and who brings baked goods on Mondays lmk.

If a team makes a game that gets great reviews and doesn't sell, that's a biz failing but the silver lining is you caught lighting in a bottle -- protect that team! It's worth its weight in gold. If you jettison the team but keep the biz people, I don't know what to tell you

Just watched The Sheep Detectives with my 10yo and it was exactly this. Kids need more movies like this. And I’d argue, especially preteens. There’s a lost type of movie for 8-12yos that just isn’t being made anymore. We need more than Dog Man and Minions and Mario.

Kids need/deserve traumatic films. Films that show death or lasting consequences that aren't resolved almost instantly. Fear, anger, grief and frustration should be part of kids movies. Kids arent stupid, they feel big emotions just like adults, they deserve to see those experiences reflected back.

I want to re-emphasize one part of this Xbox story: Half of the 3,200 cuts are happening today and half are happening in the next 12 months. In other words, even people who survived today's layoffs will have to spend the coming year wondering if they're going to be next.
