Target paid its CEO $21.8M last year — 794x the median Target worker's pay of $27,506. Target has also spent $13.9B on stock buybacks since 2019, while remaining among the largest employers of Medicaid and SNAP recipients in America. This is what I mean by a rigged economy.

For as long as my pro-AI university allows me to ban generative AI, I'll continue to do so. But because so many classes allow or even encourage it, even in the Humanities (ugh), I feel like I have to lay out more of my reasoning every semester. Basic argument: LET'S MAKE HUMAN THINGS, WHILE WE CAN.

Generative AI Policy:

Other classes at ASU may allow or even encourage the use of generative AI, but in this course, you will not use it for either your fiction or your reading responses
Together, we’re reading and writing work made by humans, for humans, in search of a human reaction. It is not appropriate to ask me or your classmates to read fiction or other prose written primarily or in part by machines
(I will also not use AI in my class prep or in any of the materials I make for you: this course is an expression of my ideas, art practices, and imagination, designed for you by me, based on years of study and experience)
Especially at the start of your artistic and academic careers, I believe that even light reliance on tools such as AI will inhibit the development of the skills, mindsets, and abilities necessary for your success
TLDR: I want your fiction, and your reactions to the books we read. That’s the path to an A in this class (and, more importantly, to learning all that this class has to offer)

The IDF does this all the time. They lie until they can't, then they say they'll do an investigation, then the investigation leads nowhere. It took 2.5 years for them to even admit they opened fire on the car, something we all knew happened hours after they did.

“Restitution for every aspiring young fiction writer with the misfortune of being white and male and therefore…cut out of the game of literary prizes and publication opportunities.” Yes, Bret Stephens, who will compensate David Szalay (2026 Booker prize) or Daniel Kraus (2026 fiction Pulitzer) ?

there is a tired line of out-of-touch argument from Bluesky leftists that the difference between Rs & Ds is so insignificant that you're just being an "electoralist" if you care which party is in power With you there, in a lot of places. But elections sure as hell do matter in immigration court
