Here to talk about all things Tolkien, media literacy, comedy, and the weirdly high number of movie remakes from the mid to late 90s that outshine the originals. Anti-racist, feminist, pro-queer joy (So, anti-Trump, obviously) He/they

TJ is a friggin’ delight and it’s always a wonderful time to drink a little bit too much and talk Tolkien with them! And Jen is always a joy and the best co-guest you could ask for!

Shoutout to the old school Chicagoan who came into my work yesterday ranting about how much he hates the Kardashians. He started the rant misgendering and deadnaming Caitlyn Jenner, then - without skipping a beat - corrected himself and continued going off about how much he hates her. #Thisistheway

as far as i'm concerned the entire purpose of the american experiment is to provide chuck schumer with a job that's not too challenging, yet rewarding and fun. and i hate to put it to you like this, but every criticism you post, and every phone call you make to his office, gets in the way of that

The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

I know James Carville is a crank who has been consistently completely wrong about Trump for ten years, but he was instrumental in winning the 1992 election, so Democrats should probably just keep blindly following his advice for at least the next couple generations. dailyprogress.com/news/local/g...

Carville: Democrats need to 'play possum,' stop the 'stupid' protests

“People don’t like the Democratic Party,” Democratic consultant James Carville told a crowd at UVa. "A political party is supposed to win an election."

1st March 2025. Disability Day of Mourning. Remembering the millions who die every year due to political decisions, hatred and discrimination. Never forgotten. Today I will be remembering and then get back to fighting the open eugenics of the majority of governments, politicians and institutions.

I’ve been thinking about some Dry the River lyrics that feel timely: “When the ice caps melt and the Devil’s in the Bible Belt, don’t cower in your bed.” “If it’s dark outside, you light the fire yourself.” Take rest. But as #Tolkien said, “Day shall come again!” Until then, we light our own fires.

One thing missing from especially #tolkien adaptation conversations is the fact that bad adaptation ≠ equal bad movie. My favorite example of this is The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). The chief message of the novel is that revenge is bad, but the movie is a perfect revenge fantasy popcorn movie.
