Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or be able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment. I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this: >>

ZELENSKYY: At this very moment, when we are talking about peace, America gives Russia the opportunity to export diesel — that's millions, billions. It all goes toward the war against people, against Ukraine, against all of us.

"The last thing I did is the report on Gaza naming what is happening there as genocide. One of the main reactions to that report [was] paying tribute to me for my courage.. why would you need courage to speak the truth?" Navi Pillay upon winning the 2026 Nobel peace prize

This: “The environmental costs, labour exploitation, data extraction, concentration of power, and normalisation of surveillance underlying the technology make it difficult, if not impossible, to meaningfully operationalise and practice “ethical” and “responsible” use.”

“An AI tool used to speed up the processing of thousands of asylum cases is failing basic accuracy tests…” The idea that synthetic text generating “AI” can be a useful aid in determining refugee status is ridiculous. We should challenge the automation of decision-making and erosion of our rights.
