"Rosalia" is a farmworker in Santa Maria, CA. "We live in constant fear of immigration raids as it doesn't matter if we have papers or not. They target us for having brown skin. We are not criminals; we are essential workers who put the food on America's tables." #WeFeedYou

i’m nearly finished with Wild Seed by Octavia Butler. brilliant and haunting, one of those books i’ll think about for years. it’s the first book of the Patternist series. weird thing is i accidentally read the third book first (Clay’s Ark)

it is a Very Bad Idea to interact with that white house chatbot thing for any reason, or even to visit the url. even to prove that it’s stupid or reveal yet another crime or hypocrisy of the regime. just don’t touch it. this is the case with all online llm’s but especially so with this one.

this, right here, is a means by which ai can “end the world” not by any action of the machines themselves, but by the actions of the graduates of a school like this, founded by billionaire, where students spend the first two hours of the day scooping out their brains.

Linda McMahon: "AI is definitely a tool used correctly. I've seen it in action. I have visited the Alpha School in Austin, Texas, where they use AI for the first two hours every single morning. The students have their headsets on, they are watching their computers ... it is incredibly effective"

thinking of pioneering a lucrative new field, a bespoke memory service. for a mere one million dollars, a tech ceo can tell me their address or phone number and i will write it down for them on a piece of paper. for an additional one million/month subscription service, they can ask me again later.

thinking about getting into music? just remember, one of the most successful film composers of the 21st century said: “the clouds will part and the sky cracks open and god himself will reach his fucking arm through just to push you down.”

27 years ago last night i was in line at midnight at a record store called Vibes in Pittsburgh, buying To Venus and Back by Tori Amos and The Fragile by NIN.

i keep seeing one of those medical ads where it’s a bunch of b roll of old people living normal life except in this one they are playing pool and the ad says “for more victories that look like _this_” right as a guy scratches the cue ball during the break. like.. wtf is the intention here??

I don’t understand the hand-wringing reaction to claims that nueral networks have a 10% chance of destroying civilisation. Fossil fuel companies have a 100% chance of initiating a mass extinction event. Maybe we could address that?

ok so turns out that whole “us almost seizes chinese boat due to ai hallucinations” happened _while_ i was watching war games so i guess im going to put on downfall tonight and see what happens

Given the outrageous, dangerous, and outright false statements made about how the polio (and other) vaccine was a "fraud" (at the Children's Health Defense conference), here's a reminder of what a massive success it was. RFK Jr. & his minions must be stopped from destroying the US healthcare system.

Graph of the number of cases and deaths from polio from 1910 to 2022, showing how polio completely disappeared after the introduction of the vaccine -- one of the most important health advances of the 20th century. Data from the US Public Health Services; the Center for Disease Control.
