Today I landed in an airport with a statue of the Virgin Mary at the end of the runway and my mum just told me that since she stopped buying the local paper ‘I miss out on who’s died’ Forget what Elon Musk says, Ireland hasn’t changed that much (thankfully!)

We will- I have no doubt- look back at this as one of the greatest scandals of our time. It he killing of the golden goose for the UK. A destruction of one of the most profitable and successful sectors.Yet, for now all politicians have their head in the sand on this one… A critically important read.

“A growing number of Britain’s top universities are trapped in a crisis which seems to have no end in sight. As funding shortfalls lead to staff cuts and strike action, morale is low and goodwill exhausted.” Important read 👇

Change the name of the institution and the vampire consultants and this is the same story at any number of different institutions. A national scandal.

Einstein’s definition of madness: watching Hibs’ first game of the season and expecting a different result 😬
Books packed. Off on holidays for a couple of weeks. See you on the other side 😊
But they’re not ‘being public about it’ This is a journalistic scoop. Baffling how so many people don’t get the problem with *foreign governments* funding U.K. political organisations
I suspect the major difference with this form of American interference in British democracy, and whatever they’ve been up to since World War II, is that this time the public have been told about it.
This argument fails on its own terms the point is that this is a *foreign government* funding political operations in the U.K. (Chucking around Soros/Open Society is generally the most obvious tell of a bad faith argument online but in this case it is really irrelevant )
These aren't parliamentary groups, theyre independent nonprofits... the kind that the Left have had funded forever via Open Society & climate groups etc, but now that the Right have started to support things such as (horror!) free speech, the fainting couch is wheeled out. Comical.
Direct foreign interference in British politics - we have rules against foreign governments funding parliamentary groups, but this is fine?? Seriously?? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Even if you've never listened to Quiet Riot before I'd urge you to tune in today. This is a very eye opening episode about the people and politics behind Palantir and the contracts they have with UK Government.

After years of nodding along with the general sentiment "Palantir=Bad" I finally get precisely why the firm, its owners, business model, and products might just big a Big Ole Problem for this (or any) country. @petergeoghegan.bsky.social has an extraordinary ability to filter and share information.
