New paper! Distribution and Shared Pathogenicity of Small-Spored Alternaria on Solanaceous Crops in Europe dx.doi.org/10.1111/ppa.... Marker analyses of small-spored Alternaria from Germany, Poland and Serbia finds 2 spp mixed. We need full genome sequencing to understand local or host adaptation.

Distribution and Shared Pathogenicity of Small‐Spored <fi>Alternaria</fi> on Solanaceous Crops in Europe

Phylogenetic and infection-assay data show that A. alternata and A. arborescens co-occur across regions and hosts with extensive haplotype sharing. Both species display comparable pathogenicity on mu....

In Kiel? Visit our plants at the botanical garden! (Can't miss it, right in front of glasshouse) As they grow and change, interpretive signs will explain why we're so passionate about this species. And what we are learning from them. We'll take you on this adventure through the season 😊🍅

Remember? Last year we released our wild tomatoes into northern Germany's wild habitats. 🌥️🍅 This year we're expanding! Scaling up field experiments + science communication together with SCTT 🇪🇺 First milestone: plants now at @uni-kiel.de Botanical Garden. Stay tuned! 🌱

Thank you @sev1panier.bsky.social for the shoutout. I highly recommend reading their fantastic work on one of the most challenging areas in #plantsciences: quantitative disease resistance (QDR).An honour to cover this work as the @theplantcell.bsky.social AFE @aspbofficial.bsky.social

This week in @science.org, a celebration of plant pangenomes. A pangenome analysis for massively polyploid sugarcane species, and one for Brassica rapa giving insight into subspeciation. What's all the fuss about pangenomes? Pamela and Douglas Soltis explore this in an insightful Perspective(1/4)
