There's always some white man who thinks he's going to make a "logical" argument against reparations for black people we haven't heard before. Its the same nonsense every time.

…If you grow up watching Black affairs programming in your home seeing people like James Baldwin, Angela Davis, Nikki Giovanni, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, etc. and hearing MLK Jr., Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Stokely Carmichael, etc. speeches in the music you listen to? You’re better prepared for advocacy
The barriers to writing something are: you need to be literate, have something to write in. The barriers to drawing: you need a pencil or a pen, and something to sketch on. paying money to soulless corporations to have machines regurgitate bits from other people’s work is not democritization
In defence of AI slop: we should embrace open access to creativity, not condemn it Look past the Donald Trump superhero memes and the new software gives us the chance to democratise creative production. No wonder art’s cultural gatekeepers are worried ✍️ Jack Riley https://bit.ly/3SpzFQ4
If debating fascists and bigots worked, online debate culture would have eliminated oppression by now.
It’s important to be clear that the truth value of a subject does not become debatable just because somebody wants to debate. Ether. Wandering wombs. Devils in red heads, the cursed left handed. Flat earth. Phrenology. Humors. Race science. “Debate me bro!” It’s fine for the answer to be: no.
Yep. The "race realist" position has been throughly refuted from many angles. Cofnas and Co. do not engage with these more recent, better informed, better evidenced positions, yet expect to be taken seriously as academics?? * same applies to right-wing critics of critical race theory et al.
how many times must academics demonstrate why Cofnas and his fellow IQ-truthers are wrong? They've been doing so for decades. At some point, you have to admit that Cofnas and his ilk (and you) are not looking for "academic debate" but to give academic credence to rank prejudice.
This. "How about refuting them" is not being asked in good faith. No amount of refuting would satisfy the likes of Sturgis. It's a demand for scientists to earnestly debate every crank and bigot on the planet, forever. Why in heaven's name would we want to waste our time doing that? 🙄

These ideas have been refuted. Genetics does not work the way Cofnas and his colleagues consciously pretend it does. If he was working in good faith, he’d never have taken these positions to begin with.

You don't debate these dipshits because it just makes it seem they have a point worth debating. Treat them like flat earthers and ancient aliens and, when they shout "DEBATE ME!", you tell them to fuck the fuck off because it's not worth your time "debating" a thoroughly debunked, racist position.

"Cofnas is a scapegoat for everyone who accepts the data on race and intelligence" is a good reminder that Hanania is a racist race scientist - but it's just as important to flag his dismal understanding of science here as "accepting the data."
Cofnas riled up a racist mob that hounded Jason Arday even after he died by suicide but sure I guess you could say he's like Jesus Christ
I’ll believe Cofnas is “dying for our sins” when we get to see the coroner’s report

ah yes. richard hanania. *former* white supremacist. 🙄 ik i keep ranting about liberals but like, for once, can they not see that this guy is still explicitly a nazi and acknowledge that they were duped while the rest of us were rolling our eyes at his little act.

'maybe you should all just refute the race scientist' im so sick and tired of ideas that roundly failed in the marketplace of ideas being endlessly debated simply bcos liberals are too afraid to tell bigots to fuck off so terrified of causing a scene and upsetting gerald at their next dinner party

These are tough times. But refusing to sell out to Generative AI, transphobia, and fascism is more valuable than anything right now.
Also, Rick Rubin recently declared AI to be the "new punk rock" and Palantir touted Raekwon visiting their facitilies. All of this happening this past week, I believe smh
So, I just read this NYT interview with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine and whoa boy. They talk about AI use, or I would say they try to talk about it, and it's as ill-informed, rediculous, and contradictory as I expected. I'm about to rant. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/23/b...
Just a reminder that the fascist reversing the progress of the 20th century includes the eradication of the idea of childhood for everyone outside the wealth class, which is relatively new, and the reintroduction of child labor. The signs were there for a while but it’s impossible to deny it now.
BASH: One of the things that's happening is there's a push to start students down a trade school track as early as elementary school. Is that too early? LINDA McMAHON: I don't think so BASH: But elementary school? McMAHON: I think you can have some introduction of skilled trades in elementary
The plantation elites I interviewed for my book fantasized about taking poor kids out of elementary schools and putting them in sugarcane fields so that they would have a more stable, pliable workforce. The children of plantation elite, however, went to good schools and then university.

This is where we are: a tech billionaire who, as an undergrad writing in the Stanford Review, "blasted a student movement to raise custodians' pay, warning it 'destroys incentive for them to improve themselves,'" is now a chief architect of a homelessness policy built around punishment and coercion.

HG Wells is alleged to have remarked "Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race”. You could see this shocking chart as an index of civilisation. A country which gets this issue so badly wrong is likely to fail in many other ways.
Shocking.
Jake Lang getting his Nazi ass beaten by Spider-Man in Minneapolis today is the ray of sunshine I needed.
More Nazis need to learn to be afraid that Spider-Man might suddenly appear and start punching them.
Apparently Spider-Man showed up to punch Jake Lang at an anti-muslim rally in Minnesota. News reports claim that both Spidey and Lang were arrested.
What gatekeepers are preventing ANYONE from getting a pencil and paper
My reaction to arguments like this is OK, show me the great AI art then. Because if it was unleashing all this creativity then you wouldn’t even need to make the argument
I don’t mean to be rude here, but we *already* had the peer review on these racist doctrines decades ago. Hence why ‘race realism’ is a paradigmatic instance of pseudoscience: it’s been thrown in the dustbin of history long before many of us were even born. We don’t have to have this same ‘debate’
Academia is a unique space where people can pursue controversial questions wherever they lead. If the work is pseudoscience (and, in my view, Cofnas' race science clearly is), academia has effective channels for response: public criticism and peer-review.
