The world as you were born into it is not how the world has always been or must always be Change is possible, change has already occurred, so why not believe things can be made better this time?
This is a sentimental essay about politics, which I know isn't the fashion, and yet the editors at @newrepublic.com let me write something personal about the Lone Star State. Link in the replies.
Texas isn't a red state. It's a state held hostage by gerrymandering and voter suppression. Hell, earlier this week they announced they're shutting down half the voting centers in Tarrant County (that's Fort Worth, 2.2 million people) and kicked everyone out of the hearing who wanted to comment.

Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.
Took me a minute to process that the first one was a painting!!
Sunsets are so pretty, but whatever you do, DON’T look directly at the sun!! Be safe: look at paintings of the sun instead. I am posting these for your personal eye health. You’re welcome!
claude should only refer to that one guy from fire emblem
Leg hurt I would love to have faith that my sports medicine appointment this Thursday will teach me how to fix my sciatica so it goes away forever after a few weeks' work, like my doctor claimed But I have no faith in my doctor, soooooo
I have seen the Odyssey movie and I liked it A LOT. Nolan was doing a thing with it and I respect the thing he was doing, and I liked his take on the characters and the story he wanted to tell with them. It felt true and timely. And the actors were great.

The Republicans in Texas have been cheating like crazy for decades; they never got over a Democratic woman (Ann Richards) as governor in the 90s Despite their cheating, Texas is turning purpler and purpler, and these assholes WILL lose control
They're probably hoping you won't hear about this. But tomorrow in TX, Tarrant County officials meet to vote on a GOP plan to cut almost HALF of Election Day voting locations, plus 8 early voting locations, some of them on campuses. Not hard to guess why. fortworthreport.org/2026/07/30/t...
I need to figure out how to take photos of the jewelry I make that are not terrible photos Anyway here's a few recent projects in photos that are kind of terrible
The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.
Almost as depressing as people using AI to write: People who have apparently read so little decent writing that they believe utterly commonplace tools every minimally competent writer employs are AI tells.
I saw someone say that sentence length variation is a sign of AI. I’m just out here like, no:
There needs to be less bad and more good in the world I am trying to put some good into the world but I am not reliable and none of it is especially significant But I am at least trying and that's got to be enough for me

How to disable or avoid intrusive AI – librarian.net
One of the biggest questions I get at Drop-In Time at the library (besides “what is taking up all my cloud storage?”) is how to disable or avoid intrusive AI that shows up where people don’t want it. I’m going to make a handout that explains how to do some of the basic AI-removal or AI-avoidance things. This is a guide for people who would like less intrusive AI in their tech environment. Maybe you like AI and find it useful? That’s fine, this document is probably not for you. Additions/edits welcome. Leave a comment or drop me an email.

Chronic illness pals, has anyone else had this experience? Migraine symptoms coinciding with endometriosis sites hurting *and* sciatica is hurting worse too (Supposedly the endo was excised, but the surgeon agrees it might have come back due to dr incompetence) Are they connected???
There is no version of yourself you could become that would satisfy the people who hate you. So you might as well be who you are.
Oh my god apparently my alma mater (undergrad university) was featured in King of the Hill and they included our terrible mascot, Temoc the comet, known by students as "the flying sperm" at least when he was first introduced Yes, this is exactly what he looks like (Photo from my sister)
My heart hurts too much to even say something ironic about this. What if we just fucking start fighting for every single precious human life before they’re under attack. What if we treat now like it matters as much as it does.
an immigration lawyer working on some of these Haitian cases today says an ICE officer told them, re: the ankle monitors: “We’re following our orders.” Direct quote Hm
