My coworkers were looking at pictures of me and the new guy said this photo “serves fart”
This is a good and interesting article about a good and interesting movie People seem to be arguing without actually reading the reviews or articles they're arguing about, so I encourage you to actually read this! It's not too long and it does an interesting job situating the movie in its context
Christopher Nolan, cinema's manic street preacher aftermath.site/christopher-no...
No, man. Nobody wants to watch your ai generated video with your ai generated music and ai generated thumbnail 💀
Did you know there's this thing called ✨nuance✨ And it is possible to enjoy a thing and also acknowledge and engage with its faults And a thing can be successful in some ways and not in others And it it INTERESTING to think about and talk about these things, beyond Good or Bad??? Good stuff.
A lot of backlash to Wilson's take on Nolan's film personalized the issue, often in response to how her review was (rightly or wrongly) viewed to have been "personal." A lot of the defenses of her review (the backlash to that backlash) were also very personal, but inverted, praising her.
this is a great point; criticism, like film criticism, prepares a broad educated public to think about culture in sophisticated ways, and the absence of stable jobs for critics has - I think - led to a public without some of the critical resources they should have.
There are parts of her review I liked, and parts I didn't, just like there were parts of the movie I liked, and parts I didn't. But I feel like the absence of a robust critical reviewing culture is a big part of why the conversation has been so weirdly vitriolic and side-taking.
Trans folks coming out and being themselves are eleventy billion times braver and cooler and more creative than dumbass transphobes and we should all pay eleventy billion times more attention to trans folks than to transphobes
Happy 40th to Metroid!!!
I got to write a fic about that moment from the end of FFX, right before the confrontation with Braska's Final Aeon There were many moments in that game that stuck with me, but this is definitely one of the most powerful, and I did my best to honor it - what Tidus says and what he doesn't.
✨️🔵 Fan Fic Preview 🔵✨️ Finally reunited with his father in this piece by @LaurenTheFlute.bsky.social, Tidus struggles with their complicated history to find his words. What should he say? What would you say? 🕰️
it's always odd when "you should expose yourself to more diverse ideas" always means a certain kind of conservatism instead of like, Indigenous art, new fusion foods, math paradoxes, or the Dvorak keyboard layout
I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.
Savage.
Turns out it is not sciatica, it is that I somehow sprained my leg (below the knee) simply by existing, and all of my back and leg is fucked up because of that Leg is taped up and already everything hurts less. Why and how did it get sprained without me noticing? Not a fucking clue.
Time to go to a sports medicine appointment about my sciatica, while dealing with what might be the start of another migraine Do you think my doctor will have referred me to a relevant clinic this time? Will he have reported my condition correctly? Will they listen to and help me? I'm pessimistic!

Canada has very narrowly avoided having fascist racist monsters in charge of everything across the country. We can't be smug and we can't assume it would never happen here because it IS happening here. Poilievre came very close, and his party is still powerful. We need to root this out.
Periodic reminder to my fellow Canadians: we dont get to be smug www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
I love parties because I offer up a tray of deviled eggs and hear "sorry, I don't really like deviled eggs" from people who are about to try one to be polite and then demolish half the plate.

The world as you were born into it is not how the world has always been or must always be Change is possible, change has already occurred, so why not believe things can be made better this time?
This is a sentimental essay about politics, which I know isn't the fashion, and yet the editors at @newrepublic.com let me write something personal about the Lone Star State. Link in the replies.
Texas isn't a red state. It's a state held hostage by gerrymandering and voter suppression. Hell, earlier this week they announced they're shutting down half the voting centers in Tarrant County (that's Fort Worth, 2.2 million people) and kicked everyone out of the hearing who wanted to comment.

Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.
Took me a minute to process that the first one was a painting!!
Sunsets are so pretty, but whatever you do, DON’T look directly at the sun!! Be safe: look at paintings of the sun instead. I am posting these for your personal eye health. You’re welcome!
