Coverage of American authoritarianism with a focus on legal cases. An American-Irish in Limerick, Ireland. Legendary potty mouth!

Hey legal and finance Bluesky: I just got a court notice of a class action trial verdict against Elon Musk for manipulating the stock price of Twitter in 2022. If you sold shares (or bought puts or sold calls) from May-Oct 2022, you can get some of Elon Musk's money. Here are the docs.

Court-ordered class action lawsuit trial verdict notice informing individuals of a jury verdict against Elon Musk entitling individuals who sold Twitter stock (and/or bought put options or sold call options) during the period of May-October 2022 that they are entitled to monetary compensation due to the trial verdict finding that Musk illegally manipulated the stock price of Twitter.Bild

One problem w/this arg I haven't seen made is that there were at least two prosecutorial decisions. 1) Go for a felony conspiracy charge on 10/9. 2) Go again for that felony conspiracy charge on 10/16, which is when GJers got kicked out. At the same time, Boutros was DROPPING other felony cases.

Whalen indicates there were communications outside the U.S. attorney's office after a charging decision was made. Perry tries to pin down WHEN THAT WAS. Whalen tells her the feds tried to clarify that in a brief. And Perry's eyes go wide.

Renee Good's family filed two lawsuits today. The first, against, USG, is a standard wrongful death. The second is a Klan Act lawsuit against Jonathan Ross, AND STEPHEN MILLER and Greg Bovino. It names Nick Shirley and Christopher Rufo as non-party co-conspirators for their racist propaganda.

44. At all relevant times, Defendants Ross, Miller, Noem, Lyons, Homan,
Bovino, and the John Doe Federal Agents acted under color of federal law and within the
scope of a joint enterprise with the private actors described below. Defendant
Lewandowski acted in part under color of federal law and in part, as alleged below, as a
private person, his federal status having been limited to a temporary part-time designation
that his conduct exceeded. Shirley, Rufo, and Ben Bergquam, and the other non-party
private actors described below, agreed to and in fact participated in the conspiracy alleged
here: each acted in concert with, and with the knowledge and encouragement of, federal
officials.

Xavier Becerra put the Steve Hilton contradiction right on the debate stage: enforce Trump’s federal immigration laws, but ignore California’s own protections? Then he dropped the hammer: “You seem to welcome immigrants who look like you, but deport immigrants who look like me.”
