JOMA was entirely free (and ad-free), run on human volunteer labour for the 10+ years it was online. We wanted anyone interested in mythic arts to be able to access it, and to connect with others interested in it too. The "community & connection" focus of early internet circles made that possible.

I agree completely with Malka's thread. I was co-editor of a web journal (The Journal of Mythic Arts) back in the 1990s, when every single page of it had to be coded by hand. It was hard work, but worth it to connect with a wide variety of other writers and artists working with myth & folklore.

we fucking loved it, even when there was basically nothing on it, and let me tell you something else: we loved it because of human connection, human diversity, human creativity. WE DON'T NEED A SINGLE THING ANY OF THESE COMEMIERDAS HAVE MADE AND TRIED TO SELL US IN ORDER TO HAVE A GREAT INTERNET.

Hurray! Congrats to @older.bsky.social @drkarenlord.bsky.social @annaleen.bsky.social and authors! Glad to share this honor with you all.

I have to say, I really enjoyed writing ‘Take Three’ because I got to discuss the history and future of music as an institution with musicians, and also get their feedback on the draft. (I’m not a musician, just a music-enjoyer.)

So, here's some reading: Kamla did a smaller version of this in 2011 that was so rife with controversy, both about its power and about the police's management itself, that I couldn't help but add the barest flavour of sci-fi to document how oppressive, silly, and revealing of corruption it was.

You know things are bad when your doctor is shocked you're still taking your cancer meds because the hospital hasn't had any in months. Then the light dawns. "Are you buying it?" Why, yes. It's not like I have a choice. I'd like to continue my treatment. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

It's been quite a couple weeks. My levels are elevated again. I've been back & forth to clinic & my doctors getting treated & tested, & conferring with them. This is not cheap, & I have more to do. If you could help out with anything, I'd be grateful. Thanks. www.gofundme.com/f/help-r-s-a...
