Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.

You don't get better/more art by skipping the creative process. It's a big org's responsibility NOT to platform pro-AI dipshits. It's their responsibility to be a goddamn brick wall about that absolute donkey-brained buffoonery. It's not a difference of opinion. It's right/wrong. *fin* (Maybe.)

At the absolute LEAST, it should value the artform of writing. It should NOT champion bullshit. It should not throw ANY weight behind thievery machines & offloading creative endeavors. Gen AI is not a tool that solves a problem. It is simply A PROBLEM. It has NO place in the craft of writing/art.+

Regarding HWA, I'm not a member. (I'm a member of SFWA.) Any big-name org is supposed to protect your interests. It's supposed to safeguard your creative life. Provide resources. Forums. Tangible support. It's NOT supposed to back the ideology/entity that's threatening your livelihood.+

This includes an intensive line and developmental edit of up to 7,000 words of fiction *with detailed explanations of why I am making each suggestion* and an approximately one-hour video call for discussion, follow-up, and career advice.

Hey folks! I'm going to have a little medical downtime in early September (cataract surgery) so I'm taking advantage of that enforced rest to offer 4 writing mentoring sessions at $750/each.

After personally reading 6,000 pages of romantasy fiction, Judge Colleen McMahon called this copyright suit over the bestselling Crave series "open and shut.” The "shut" part still took four years, three judges, and $3.4M in fees. Full story: copyrightlately.com/crave-copyri...

After 6,000 Romantasy Pages, Judge Hands Crave Plaintiff the Bill

The Crave copyright case was open and shut once a judge compared the books. Getting there took four years and $3.4 million in legal fees.

World media is reporting breathlessly on the situation in Cueta (which was handled in 48 hours) as if they have no understanding of geography/ geopolitics in Europe. Cueta is a Spanish enclave bordered by MOROCCO. There's a whole sea between it & Spain/Europe. THOSE PEOPLE NEVER LEFT NORTH AFRICA.

After a World Cup with great football, shitty pitches, political interference, favoritism & appalling treatment of teams & fans, this was the last straw 'There can be no letup. Such an amazing, impactful story. Rings true in today’s world. I feel like it jumped right out of my own group chats. The desperation and the hope, both. I’m rambling over here. You’d better just go and read the story yourself. (The audio version is amazing too.)

It's the last day of July! Tomorrow, my story, THIS IS AN EMERGENCY BROADCAST, goes to the @clarkesworldmagazine.com archives. But you can still read it on the front page today, now with an incredible audio performance by Kate Baker! Enjoy your weekend! clarkesworldmagazine.com/garcia_07_26/

bought candy at the pool for a 13yo and she tried to give me cash. i was like nahh it's nbd, and she goes "girl i have seen your car." 13yo girls remain undefeated. you think you're talking to a child but you're actually talking to whatever gods used to send to punish mortals for their hubris

(a) to make sure this bill never leaves the Judiciary Committee, and (b) that every Republican is forced on the record to take a position on it. Please understand - this is an attack on Black and Indigenous rights as much as it is an exercise of colonialism and imperialism.

Of course, this bill doesn't obviate their tax obligations or grant them independence. It would, instead, allow for the deportation of people *from their own birthplaces*. I cannot overstate how evil and racist this bill is. Please call your Congressional representatives and tell them:
