Delighted to see M. John Harrison make the Booker shortlist. While I kinda feel like Marlon James will likely take the prize, it's exciting enough to see Harrison crack into the upper echelon with such a weird and difficult little book, in his eighties, no less.
I enjoyed this last episode a little more. The focus was helpful. But there's a sloppiness I'm still struggling with. I don't buy John's hatred of Hal. I don't buy that Hal would get thrown in prison given circumstances. And why the heck is it snowing one day, and bright ass summer the next?

I'll go first, and it's abso-LUT-ely THE CITY IN GLASS by Nghi Vo. There are moments from that book that live in my blood and wake me from the dark.
There's something to be said about how in the US CS Lewis is seen as a writer of Christian apologetics above all else & as a result Narnia is *only* seen as allegory, while in Britain he's seen as an author of beloved children's books, & we find the whole "the lion is Jesus" stuff a bit embarrassing

we will see how the brubaker case plays out (what i read of the court filings makes the complaint seem quite weak on its face)…regardless, seeing posts like these from industry staples makes it pretty clear how men in comics continually get away with sexual abuse and impropriety.
