Colleagues: what are your institutions doing to support international students given the threat to F-1 Duration of Status (D/S) and new CPT restrictions? I’m especially concerned about impacts on PhD timelines and optional summer internships. Would value hearing how others are responding.

PUBLICATION ALERT! But not my own. :) Proud of my partner, who has put together an awesome collection of short stories + a novel. Her very first publication landed at the Colorado Review, a top tier literary fiction journal. No idea how she does it- this isn't even her full time job!

So excited to be launching this request for proposals on state policies to improve k-12 educational outcomes at Arnold Ventures. I'm stoked to be supporting the team in carrying out this RFP. Take a look, share, and send in an LOI www.arnoldventures.org/stories/what...

This is about publishing in economics journals but I found it fascinating and probably applicable in other fields/areas- about why/how two papers asking the same question with the same answer might have very different landing spots in terms of a journal jasonmfletcher.substack.com/p/how-to-wri...

One of the biggest joys of being a professor that I could not have foreseen those last few years of mucking through my PhD is doctoral advising. It has been an extraordinary privilege to support my advisees on their incredible research. I can't wait for y'all to hear more about their work.

It appears the IES Restricted Use Data License program is continuing. But the annual cost is now $3500--nearly 9X costlier than the $400 I paid before. I've been operating under the assumption the whole program would end, and have adjusted my research around that. This just solidifies my decision.

We are writing to ask whether you wish to continue your use of your IES Restricted Use Data License.

IF YES, the virtual workspace materials associated with your Restricted Use Data License will be made available to you in the coming weeks once the enclave has been established and payment has been received. This fee is $2000 for six months’ access to the enclave or $3500 for a year of access to the enclave. Note, no payments are due at this time and will only become due once your workspace is restored in the new enclave.

IF NO, your virtual workspaces will be wiped and IES will close your RUD License. Please note that following termination of the License, no materials may be recovered, nor shall any further Disclosure Risk Review occur for this License.

To continue your use in the new virtual data enclave, you MUST RESPOND BY OCTOBER 15, 2026. At that time, IES will wipe existing virtual workspaces and terminate Restricted Use Data Licenses not confirmed for continuing use.

Thank you,

IES Data Security

The General Social Survey, American National Election Study, & Panel Study of Income Dynamics are funded by NSF-SBE. It's not just individual grants at risk. It's irreplaceable data infrastructure that provides nonpartisan, gold-standard info on who we are, where we've been, & where we are headed.

Have you taken a quick moment to submit an action alert letter? It is especially important that Congress hear from the research community NOW. 🚨 Call on your Members of Congress to contact NSF immediately and urge them to abandon plans to dismantle the SBE directorate ➡️ cossa.org/action-cente...

I am sad to share that Project Implicit, my first non-profit and foundation of my career, is closing. The IAT website will continue, managed by the next generation of leaders in implicit bias research. Here's the statement I posted to LinkedIn. It didn't vibe right as a bsky thread.

***NEWLY ACCEPTED PAPER*** I have a new short paper with Margaret Leighton We use decades of data (HERI) on incoming college freshmen to show that students' life goals have changed dramatically over time. Students really are very different than they were in the past! Here are the key findings:
