Today we’re thinking about all of the laborers that help us prepare for and reckon with the Climate Crisis. Many of these workers put their lives on the line because of how we’ve treated the earth. Wildfire fighters, civic infrastructure workers, and engineers are climate heroes.

😤 It's Time To #MakePollutersPay 🤝 Join our Illinois Coalition and let's get the Climate Superfund Act passed! Big oil made the mess, big oil can clean it up.
Stay cool this Labor Day Weekend, Illinois, especially those in central Illinois where the heatwave will hit the hardest. It doesn't have to be this way. #makepolluterspay

This ruling is a result of one court in one district and does not apply to our work in Illinois. We are undeterred in our mission to #MakePollutersPay and make our lives more affordable. @newyorkstateag.bsky.social should appeal this decision and work to have it reversed. This is far from over.
This decision was influenced by Big Oil. We call on @newyorkstateag.bsky.social to immediately appeal the decision striking down New York’s Climate Superfund Law and defend the state’s ability to make polluters pay.
There are catastrophes everywhere. Nepal, Canada, Illinois. Climate change has no borders. We can prepare for these disasters before they happen at no expense to the taxpayers. The solution? Making polluters pay. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/27/c...

Glaciers and permafrost in the Himalayas are melting faster as temperatures rise, though scientists are still studying the exact causes of this week’s landslide.

The reason the sky is smokey and that your groceries are more expensive is the same: polluting companies are making record profits at your expense. Hear from Climate Superfund Act co-sponsor Robyn Gabel on how these two crises are interlinked and what it means to #makepolluterspay in Illinois.

Illinois’ Solar for All program has stalled for nearly a decade. Now, it’s bringing bill-lowering clean power to communities that need it most.
Illinois Solar for All is, at last, taking off
The state’s solar equity program has been in place for nearly a decade, but it wasn’t until recently, after years of grassroots efforts, that…

This is not normal. Man-made climate change has caused tornado alley to shift east, right in the path of Illinois homeowners. We can hold the corporate polluters responsible for this pollution accountable with #MakePollutersPay , and help Illinoisans in the process.
🌪️ Iowa ranks 5th in the nation for preliminary tornado reports this year, with 71 through July 27. Only Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi and Missouri rank higher. A striking reminder of Iowa’s active severe weather season. Source: NOAA/NWS SPC

Organizers with Sunrise Chicago launched the Make Polluters Pay campaign outside the Aspen Ideas Climate Conference at U of C this afternoon. They want Illinois legislators to force polluters to pay for damage done to local communities.
🚨💨Chicagoans are breathing smoke this morning. Here's some info about it and what you can do for change 🔋🔽

As we continue to feel the effects of climate change in our daily lives, we need to make sure that our grids aren't falling out from under us. Clean energy can help that.
The power grid avoided catastrophe during last week’s heat wave. Here’s how clean energy helped keep the lights on.

🥵 🌡️ It's HOT in Illinois today. Here's a quick run-down of how we got here. 🔽
Breaking News! Code Yikes! The global 2-meter surface temperature hit the highest on record for June 28th, narrowly edging out the previous record set way back in 2024. Will this year's maximum break 17°C? The Climate 8-ball is taking the Over. Stay tuned!
Illinois just went through it's most chaotic June on record, with over 170 tornadoes recorded before July 1st. Now Chicago is poised to have a historic heat wave this week. It's no coincidence: the climate crisis is here. Big oil and other corporate polluters have made this summer a brutal one.
WARNING: The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning in effect from 12:00p.m. Monday (6/29) until 10:00p.m. Wednesday (7/1). Please let our most vulnerable neighbors know that the City has activated cooling shelters while the heat dome is in effect.
Thank you @govpritzker.illinois.gov , it's imperative that Big Oil is not given immunity from being held accountable for their role in polluting our communities. Now let's hold them accountable. It's time to #MakePollutersPay .
No industry should receive a blanket exemption from accountability under the law. I'm urging Congress to reject Big Oil's immunity proposal and stand with states, taxpayers, and the rule of law — not special protections for powerful corporations.
New York Democrats sent @claireforny.bsky.social to congress last night. It's no surprise, because Valdez has championed New York's successful Make Polluters Pay bill for the past two years. Making Polluters Pay isn't just the right thing to do, it's also good politics.
On the ground in Charleston to survey damage and check in with residents. Know that my administration will be there every step of the way as our state recovers from last week’s severe weather.
This is just the beginning. Illinois is in for a dramatic and deadly storm season, and the tornadoes, rain, hail, and high wind we’ve seen this month is the start. These storms are intensified because of the deliberate actions of wealthy polluters.
Trump has now paid energy companies $2.5 billion of your money to stop clean energy projects that would lower your energy costs and benefit the environment. This administration and its Republican enablers in Congress continue to make life worse for ordinary Americans while enriching billionaires.
Our friends at @onenorthside.bsky.social recently tabled for #MakePollutersPay at EcoFest 2026! We loved coming together to share about the importance of our campaign. If you want to get involved, dm us to get connected to our Illinois Make Polluters Pay Coalition.
Yes, and how many times must the y-axis rise Before it is forever high?
As fossil-fueled climate change makes heatwaves more frequent and deadly, I wonder how air conditioning will evolve in cultures that have historically disliked it. I hope many heat pumps installed to decrease pollution and costs from space heating will be two-way, so folks have AC just in case.
Heatwaves in France: nearly 5,400 deaths a year and inequalities in heat exposure New studies warn about the health impact, highlighting mounting risks, especially in unsuitable housing and the poorest district
Coalition member @thepeopleslobby.bsky.social hosted a great zine making workshop where participants made educational pamphlets about #MakePollutersPay ! Coming together in mission-driven solidarity is both fun and crucial when we’re up against well funded special interests.
