Organizers with Sunrise Chicago launched the Make Polluters Pay campaign outside the Aspen Ideas Climate Conference at U of C this afternoon. They want Illinois legislators to force polluters to pay for damage done to local communities.

The hazy smoke, which also carries a noticeable scent, has moved into the region from Canada. The alert is in effect until midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Last week, Chicagoans filed more than 20,000 weather-related complaints with the city’s non-emergency hotline. Thursday had the single highest total of weather-related calls since the hotline launched in 2018.

Who paid for that? The public or the oil companies who are legally required to? Brag about it when the oil companies are paying for it and doing it not the public. Until then, you are telling us we are paying to clean up for the oil industry. Not something to celebrate.
