My goals are to reduce smoking-related DEATH and reduce teen nicotine USE. Both involve change. To change something, you need to be able to measure it...

How many teens in the USA, Canada and the UK may be 'hooked' on nicotine? Thankfully, we have official govt and trusted-source (non-industry) surveys. Below is the answer. Note that in all three countries, teen nicotine vaping is dropping, not rising. (1/5) 👇

I worked in the US Department of Health from 1993-2003. Traveled often for work to Africa, Middle East and South Asia. Back then, I remember telling people how to identify a police state: Soldiers with machine guns in the airport. And now we have public executions. Yay. 🙄

Behold the teen nicotine vaping "epidemic" in the USA, Canada and UK. In all three countries, the public is being told how many kids vape "at least one time in the past 30 days." The public does not know how many vape daily. These images are accurate. Ask if you want links to official surveys.

According to CDC, 10.5% of US teens have been diagnosed with #ADHD. Only 5.6% are on ADHD meds, so 4.9% are unmedicated. Another unknown number may have undiagnosted ADHD. Studies with nicotine patches show nicotine reduces ADHD symptoms. So, what are the chances that kid on the right has ADHD?

Malaria control health interventions are to control the vector (mosquitoes): Reduce standing water; insecticides; insecticide-impregnated bednets. Plus anti-malarial meds. Tobacco Control interventions are to control PEOPLE: Sin taxes and bans, and misinformation about relative risks.

Global #people infected by blood sucking insects vs #killed. Smoking kills 10x as many people as mosquitoes. We now know how to prevent most deaths from smoking but tobacco control perversely obstructs implementation! @algore09algor.bsky.social @chancethegardener.bsky.social @jgitchell.bsky.social

EFFECTIVENESS = EFFICACY + USE So a smoking cessation tool that is both "efficacious" AND the most used is, obviously, the most "effective" smoking cessation intervention. US states are now imposing "sin taxes," bans and restrictions on the most effective smoking cessation tools available. 🙄

The number of Twitter/"X" posts claiming "nicotine harms developing brains" tripled over the past 15 years... ...while the number of US teens who use nicotine dropped from 24.2% to 9.5%. There is now a profound disconnect between what the public is being told and what is actually happening.

If you don't follow this topic, you probably have no idea how out of hand the illicit nicotine market in Australia has become. It's not just tax evasion, it's extortion, firebombings of tobacco shops, and violent turf war. And if you sell e-cigarettes there, you could spend years in prison.

Costly taxes and regulations can lead to illicit markets. Jacob Grier shows how tobacco taxes and vape bans hand the market to gangs and smugglers rather than end nicotine use. www.liberalism.org/p/when-tobac...

This summarizes the World Health Organization's advice to member states. 46 countries have now adopted THIS policy based on WHO guidance. That's 35% of all people on Earth. I wonder... Does no one working in the WHO ever take two steps back and ask themselves, "What if we're wrong?"
