#TREC_meets_Ecotron day 1 To kick off, we are organizing a workshop with about 60 partners to brainstorm about how TREC can go for freshwater and terrestrial systems, hosted at Fontainebleau @minesparis-psl.bsky.social Campus, coupled with a tour of CEREEP - Ecotron IDF facilities.
Today marks the start of an intense and exciting event, #TREC_meets_Ecotron. Over the next month #CEREEP-EcotronIdF hosts @embltrec.bsky.social scientific expedition teams (field, mobile labs, science and logistics, public communications, etc.) for multiple collaborative efforts.
News from CEREEP Ecotron (2/15) The eucalyptus trees for the NUTRIBOR project (#ANR, IPGP, University of Strasbourg, CIRAD, University of Saclay, @geosciences.bsky.social ) have arrived!
Some news about what's going at our research station (1/15) @cnrsecologie.bsky.social @normalesup.bsky.social. In the ERC-funded Pandora project (Nicolas Coltice, Naida Sakadjian’s PhD), we are trying to reproduce interactions between rocks & microbes when life emerged, around 4 billion years ago.
New paper : "The nature of soil blue carbon varies across mangrove geomorphic settings" in www.nature.com/articles/s43... with @cbiogeo.bsky.social Catherine Lovelock, A Aldrie Amir, Cornelia Rumpel, Dr. Tuhin Bhadra, Sarah Robin, Cyril Marchand, Amrit Mishra, Syed Hilal Farooq, NIcolas Bottinelli,
Little eucalyptus trees will grow big... We have just received a shipment from our CIRAD collaborators in Brazil @cirad.bsky.social
Some impressions from the field ... In the frame of the Sybio project (www.samuelabiven.org/projects/val...), we were in the field last week at St Brieuc's Bay (BZH) to collect green algae in order to turn them into biochar...
Exciting news! Our EcoSoilChange project has been officially selected by the French National Research Agency (ANR) for funding. We’ll explore how plant-microbiome-soil ecosystems respond to climate change with cutting-edge climate simulations at the CEREEP Ecotron Ile-de-France. #Ecotron #ANRfunded

"There has been a progressive decline in fieldwork-based research and education in ecology over recent decades", precisely at a time when we most urgently need a better understanding of how natural systems work. So sad. Trends in Ecology & Evolution [paywalled] www.cell.com/trends/ecolo...
Extinction of experience among ecologists
Fieldwork-based research and education in ecology are under multiple threats and are progressively declining. We call for greater attention to this ongoing loss of direct field experience within the ecology community, as it could have widespread consequences for science and education, ultimately hindering efforts to address the ongoing biodiversity crisis.
