#JamesBarryDiary 21/7/1876 Something dark all day and raining some pretty good showers after dinner but not enough to raise the water perceptibly. I washed my self all over to day and I felt a great deal the better of it. John Grant went off to get the drill at 8 Mile Brook this afternoon.

#JamesBarryDiary 20/7/1876 Another very warm day, especially in the forenoon, but the afternoon was somewhat windy, and of course, not so burning as the forenoon. John Grant at the studding down in the kitchen. I was sawing a few shingles morning and afternoon. I can only saw about 1000. Amen.

... but there was arose some trouble about his dogs and our Cat: The Cat has kittens and of course it attacked the dogs and the 2 dog would be too many for it, and I was going to shoot his dogs, and he cleared out with them. /2

#JamesBarryDiary 14/07/1876 Another dreadful hot day indeed. Evart was furring up stairs. the boy was edging a little, and he and I in the afternoon went down to Smith's and from that up to Archibald's mills for lath; then went up to Dan Sutherland's and from that to Gordon's, and from that home.

Most all the shops were shut, and a hard job we had of it to get some things that we needed; and had to come away without some things. ☛ Just as I was on the point of going to bed last night, who came in but David Munro and McLaughlin, and I had to fiddle for them 2 hours! — Amen. Amen.

#JamesBarryDiary 9/7/1876 A very fine mild day. The world here away is in its full Summer dress of flowers leaves and strawberries — a good many of them I eat these times and no mistake. Preaching at the Salt Springs, of course, the animal went there, thinking to escape Hell Fire by so doing. Amen.
