It really might be the question for middle powers as a thing, if we can make deep and liquid capital markets across many different countries. There is a ton of capital already there, we just need to mobilize it. And also you dont need to hang out with the cuddle puddle people for funding

in a perfect world, we would have beautiful, connected capital markets between Canada/UK/Australia/EU at minimum, plus some extras like Singapore

The AI Scientist v3 is out: The Agentic Scientist. github.com/SakanaAI/AI-... The Agentic Scientist is the 3rd iteration of our automated AI Scientist research system, and the shift this time is from "one agent writes a paper" to "a scaffold of parallel agents orchestrates the full research loop."

Green and non-green innovation respond very differently to the business cycle. While non-green innovation declines after contractionary shocks, green innovation increases. Thus, R&D subsidies are more effective – and generate relatively more green innovation – during downturns.

The figure shows the responses of patenting to a contractionary monetary policy shock that raises the federal funds rate by 25 basis points. Non-green patenting falls markedly while the number of green patents rises. As a result, the green patent share increases persistently, reaching about 0.3 percentage points after roughly 15 quarters.

Green innovation is central for the transition to a low-carbon economy, but there are concerns that economic downturns may slow technological progress by reducing firms’ incentives and resources to innovate. This column shows that green and non-green innovation respond very differently to the business cycle. While non-green innovation declines after contractionary shocks, green innovation increases. A model of directed technical change explains this divergence through the more backloaded profits of green technologies and the reallocation of scarce innovation inputs during downturns. The findings imply that R&D subsidies are more effective – and generate relatively more green innovation – during downturns.

Help! I just built a tool to figure out what a fair price range for a full hvac replacement system is, but I'd like some feedback on it. Can you play with it and see if what it comes up with seems in the ballpark? Thanks! www.natethehousewhisperer.com/fairquotetool
