Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

I don’t know how to say without sounding trite that I love my trans brothers, sisters, and siblings. That I am sorry this country keeps asking you to justify your humanity to bigots who have never had to defend their own. And that I will fight for you.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote: https://propub.li/4veRIqA

Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

Us + Backrooms + Silicon Valley. Fascinating read! Also, it's got me thinking of the horror potential of the abandoned, dead data centers of the future. Also "sloppelgänger" is my new favorite word.

Ghoul-in’ Dickey@colindickey.com · 4mo ago

I wrote a thing about Backrooms, Us, the underground labyrinths of the Bay Area where I grew up, AI slopplegangers, and what's really lurking underneath Silicon Valley. It's my first for @oaklandreviewofbooks.org, and I think you'll really enjoy it.

A stunning response (i.e., more than just a review) of GHOSTING, by Tyran Grillo. If you don't have the time or inclination to read the book, this serves as an excellent bluffer's guide to something we all deal with, at some point.

Dominic Pettman: Ghosting (Book Review)

Ghosting: On Disappearance is a treatise of nonbeing—or, perhaps more precisely, of unbeing. It is not merely about disappearance but about the existential tremors that ripple outwar…
