sorry but "not using LLM chatbots at all" *is* the pragmatic middle ground. you are not making a practical decision by engaging with an addictive system largely designed in ways meant to make you worse off by people who do not have your best interests in mind

I cannot stress enough: the AI bubble has already popped it is just being kept on life support by corporations trying to squeeze even a dollar more out of their shit investment, and tech bros doing the same before abandoning their shit company startups. keep hating on AI, you're winning

Report Suggests Nearly No One Is Buying AI Generated Goods https://kotaku.com/3d-model-markets-are-being-flooded-with-ai-sellers-but-no-ones-buying-2000724790

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

this makes me think of that right wing argument against abortion rights where they're like "what if you aborted the person who might have a cure for cancer?" yeah well what if the person that could do that is already on this earth living in survival mode without the resources they need

Headlines: Such-and-such technology may someday be as smart as human brains! Reminder: *We already have human brains.* Billions of them. Most of them living in poverty and being exploited for the obscene benefit of a tiny number of the worst people in the world.

Other than explicitly comparing himself to Tarantino and Rodriguez, how fucking laughable to say “all films in cinema look the same” and claim that AI is - not “will”, IS - changing that. As if AI doesn’t look all the fucking same. And as if AI isn’t scraped from the films he says look the same.

oh your entire industry is crumbling because of externalities outside your control? Have you thought of starting a patreon so that you have to do a bunch of extra work on top of that?

I’m not going to defend the dumbest online cancellations of 2016-2024. Even if you think they were injustices, though, we are talking about maybe 100 people, mostly public figures, losing their jobs. That’s around a quarter of the number of firings after Charlie Kirk was killed.

Yesterday evening I smashed my favourite mug, sliced my finger open, and burned the same finger while making dinner (not an attempt to cauterise the wound). Clearly cannot be trusted in kitchens these days.
