Earth day. As it turns out Earth is one of my favorite places to hang out. All kidding aside I spend all the free time I can in the woods and on the rivers of the West. Unfortunately we’re facing headwinds for protecting these places in the US. We’ve got to take care of this place.

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.

@ee-reh-neh.bsky.social capturing the difficulty of carrying out any sort of projects with a field component. So grateful to have been a part of this study.

First, a couple of weeks ago: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... Single cell RNAseq on blood from 200 donors across 4 sites in Indonesia spanning regional axes of genetic and environmental diversity. This is one of very few scRNA data sets from the Global South, including urban and rural settings.

Hi yes I will have more to say about this in a few hours but please enjoy this paper. It's been a huge labour of love and effort for the last four years, and a significant part of our research efforts, and I'm so so so thrilled it's finally ready to share. Tldr: scRNA-seq in Indonesia hard but fun

Both chambers of Congress have now passed the FY26 minibus with NIH provisions. The President will sign. (1) $48.7 billion for NIH (2) Full IDC recovery (3) No more multi-year funding (4) No NIH reorganization, maintaining the current IC structure.

The fact of the matter is: a severe #IceStorm is developing across much of the country at this very moment, with potentially devastating and far-reaching consequences extending far beyond the region of maximum #ice concentration. Watch out for the #ice, and help your neighbors weather the storm.

CNN: DHS officials have come to FEMA staff and told them to limit the use of the word ice…they are worried that by posting something like, watch out for the ice, that it's going to become a meme….

My (now) weekly update on 2026 NIH funding. New and competitive renewal awards. 3 new awards (compared to ~100 expected based on recent years). No new ICs... still just NIA, NINDS, NIDCD, and NIDCR. 1/2

A line grant showing new and competitive renewal awards made by NIH is fiscal year 2026 compared to 2021-2025. The line for fiscal year 2026 is very close to zero.

Excited to be attending my first SITC Annual Meeting! On Friday, Brandon Fischer from @nebanovich.bsky.social will present a poster on some of our work on Chlorotoxin CAR T cells. Check it out! #SITC25
