Off to the AES exhibition on Saturday. Plenty of artwork, prints & books for sale, plus this fantastic Swiss made Wild binocular microscope, with carrying case, camera lucida, photo tubes and eye-pieces. Has helped with many books I’ve worked on. Looking forward to meeting many ento friends.

Celebrating receiving an advance copy of my new Magnum Opus (with 4,000 images), by catching a Clifden Nonpareil on the same day.

Too pretty to actually use!

Thanks Anna. In fact I’ve mentioned Ron Freeborn in my forthcoming book.

A lovely idea. I voted for the iconic Chalk Hill Blue which came 16th. I was tempted by the Painted Lady. Talking of paint, congratulations to @rlewington2.bsky.social for his exquisite illustrations. We were both lucky enough to be taught by the late Ron Freeborn - one of the best teachers.

Thanks Wylie.

Mating Six-spot Burnet moths, Zygaena filipendulae stephensii, on a Devil's-bit Scabious, Succissa pratensis, flower in an Oxfordshire floodplain meadow. #moths #lepidoptera. HT to @rlewington2.bsky.social for his consistently excellent guidebook artistry.

Lots of Orange-tips around. My favourite butterfly, so I thought I’d paint a male on Cuckoo Flower, with egg from a visiting female.

One of 4 Bryony Ladybirds in the garden this morning, along with a Bryony Mining Bee. Two rare insects.

Thanks Megan

Been really looking forward to this book, so got myself a copy on Thursday and I just love it - so informative, and really rather beautiful as well. Can't wait to get out and put it to practical use...roll on the summer! 🦗

Pleased it’s finally out now, Stephen and good to hear you like it.

It's nearly 2 years ago that I saw @rlewington2.bsky.social mention this upcoming book on (ex-)X and ordered it. Finally arrived this afternoon and wow! The illustrations are, as ever exquisite. Don't think I thought beyond 'crickets' when I read "and allies" in the title - learnt something already!

Just received an advance hardback copy of ‘Dragonflies’ with masses of fantastic new photos, mostly by Steve Cham, and many new artworks. Also received, a reprint of ‘Bees’, both excellently printed in China.

Pleased you are pleased, Nick. Thanks for your endorsement.
