New Transport for London Speed Limit map just out. Shows huge coverage of 20mph limits (in green). NB 69% of road casualties in London are on main roads ("A"/"B" classified) so great to see TfL and many boroughs bringing in 20mph on these roads too. Open the app to drill down

If only we could take 3 countries with the same cars, laws, etc, change most 30mph speed limits to 20mph in one of them and measure the results. Wales did that and now a Senedd Research report has shown how casualties dropped, -23.8% compared to England -5.2% and Scotland +3.1%. #20splenty

So good that the Mayor’s Vision Zero Action Plan 2 is finally out – with strong recommendations on culture shift and reducing danger. What matters now is delivery. I’ll keep pushing at City Hall to make sure TfL gets on with urgency making London’s streets safer for everyone. 🧵[1/7]

“Collisions, never ‘accidents’, happen daily. They happen when people make mistakes. Whoever slips up, whether it’s a tired child scooting home or a weary person at the wheel of a car or lorry, the price should not be death or life-changing injury. I’m glad to see the Mayor and his teams understand that to achieve Vision Zero we need to create city streets where no one is harmed when, inevitably, mistakes are made.

“Too often there has been a culture on our roads where speeding, distraction and risky driving are treated as acceptable, when in reality they can have devastating consequences. It’s encouraging to see VZAP2 clearly challenge that way of thinking and recognise that changing the culture around driving has to be part of the solution.

“I love the new ideas for ‘hospital zones’ and ‘evening streets’ building on the success of School Streets to reduce road risk and improve air quality. I’m pleased to see that side road zebras, reminding drivers to give way to people crossing, will also be piloted.

“VZAP2 emphasises partnership working between TfL, the Met and the boroughs not only to create safer more inclusive streets, but also to provide support for bereaved families and crash survivors through effective collision investigation along with routine challenge of ‘fatal four’ offences: speeding, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone.

“The Mayor's VZAP2 Plan has set out clear actions and targets, and what matters most now for Londoners is delivery. I will continue my work on the Assembly to scrutinise his progress closely and ensure that every policy set out is followed through and fully implemented so we can end the trauma of road harm in our city.”

Delighted to show Lilian Greenwood & DfT how we're transforming Lambeth Bridge - formally one of the most dangerous junctions in London for cyclists. The TfL team is delivering a safer road layout, crossings, bike lanes, signals, bridge protection, SUDs & more 🚲🚶‍♀️🚲🚶‍♀️💚 #VisionZeroLDN

You’d think London’s roads calm down after work - but after 6pm the West End turns into Wild West, with no congestion charge and few parking controls. @cleancitiescampaign.org analysis shows dramatic increase of cars entering central London in evening 6-7pm (56%+) compared to morning 8-9am... 1/9

The Road Safety Strategy is an opportunity to address the dangers pedestrians face every day, but the vision should be for zero people to lose their lives. We should not accept that a certain number of people will die on our roads. livingstreets.org.uk/RSScomment

Great work again from @londoncycling.bsky.social to update their dangerous junctions map. Don't forget that there is also a map for the most dangerous junctions for pedestrians too. lcc-dangerous-junctions.streamlit.app
