More great work from Camden Council @adamdkharrison.bsky.social with improvements at the southern end of Monmouth St at Seven Dials. Popular location for pedestrians now with no through traffic, high quality pavement and new trees.

High levels of coverage of 20mph limits in London (now estimated at more than 60% of all borough managed roads). As 20's Plenty say the key thing is to include main roads where people and vehicles mix in the 20mph limits - not just residential streets.
New Transport for London Speed Limit map just out. Shows huge coverage of 20mph limits (in green). NB 69% of road casualties in London are on main roads ("A"/"B" classified) so great to see TfL and many boroughs bringing in 20mph on these roads too. Open the app to drill down

Today, I was proud to join @sadiqkhanlondon.bsky.social to launch London's bold new Vision Zero Action Plan. Vision Zero is our initiative – with TfL, Met Police & London’s Councils - to eliminate tragic deaths & serious injuries on our streets by 2041.
Great to see launch of Vision Zero Action Plan 2. It is made up of actions that make London's streets safer for people on foot inc. reducing vehicle speeds, safe high streets (+ lots more pedestrian crossings), reducing traffic and more enforcement by Met Police content.tfl.gov.uk/vision-zero-...

It is neither inevitable nor acceptable that anyone is killed on London’s roads. Today’s Vision Zero Action Plan launch at LAS HART Resilience Hub reinforces my commitment to ending road deaths. There is more to do, but every step matters to make our city safer.
If you are talking to parties and candidates in your borough ahead of the Local Elections on 7th May, here are some suggestions for making streets and roads safer and more attractive for people who are walking and wheeling. londonlivingstreets.com/2026/03/12/l...
How long should it take to cross a junction? In suburban London it can take a while, like crossing the junction of Christchurch Road and Merantum Way to walk between two neighbouring shopping centres. Is it acceptable to let pedestrians wait this long? @londonls.bsky.social @willnorman.co.uk
Our tenth UK Walking Summit is just two weeks away! This year's event is in Liverpool and features a programme packed with unmissable highlights. Zak Viney, our Campaigns and Public Affairs Coordinator, shares the five things they're most excited about: https://bitly.livingstreets.org.uk/4sa7sJY
We're at the Court of Appeal today for our hearing! Huge thanks to all our supporters for helping us get this far - we wouldn't have made it here without you.
Great work again from @londoncycling.bsky.social to update their dangerous junctions map. Don't forget that there is also a map for the most dangerous junctions for pedestrians too. lcc-dangerous-junctions.streamlit.app
NEW: INACTION CONTINUES ON DANGEROUS JUNCTIONS 📊The latest data published today, shows a picture of inaction from @mayoroflondon.bsky.social, TfL and local councils, when it comes to making junctions safe for cycling... 🧑💻 Email the mayor and demand action: bit.ly/47QcmUF
Not only are London’s buses amongst the cheapest in the UK, but we’re making them faster too ⚡️ Our £30m investment in Haringey, Lewisham & Southwark will improve bus services and speed up journeys, supporting neighbourhoods and improving access to jobs and services.
All aboard! Three London boroughs get £30m green light to speed up buses

Rapid work this. One of a number of schemes that can finally allow Central London to become as pedestrian-friendly as many European capitals. See too the Crown Estate plans for Regent St area and Camden's amazing proposals across Holborn.
The pedestrianisation of Oxford St will be transformational - making it a safer and much more pleasant area to visit. We've published our plans for the first phase of this exciting project. Have your say: haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/oxford-stree...
Really good scheme for pedestrians going in St John St near to Farringdon Station and Smithfield Market and close to where the new Museum of London will be (part of which opens in 2026).
Great to see the construction underway for this new scheme in Farringdon: ☔️rain gardens & SuDS 🌳🌹🌻trees & planting 🚲new cycle lane ⚡️EV charging 🪑new seating 👏 @islington-council.bsky.social @rowchampion.bsky.social
New data shows that since @mayoroflondon.bsky.social launched the Direct Vision Standard lorry safety scheme in London we've seen: 📉a 50% fall in people killed & seriously injured by HGVs ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️six fewer fatalities every year tinyurl.com/j3475ua3
🌍 What do global cities such as Amsterdam, Stockholm and Edinburgh all have in common? These major cities have ALL banned fossil fuel adverts. These ads have massive climate and health impacts, all while targeting politically influential decision makers.
TfL confirms changes to Congestion Charge inc. increase to £18 from Jan 2026 and the potential for annual increases. Sadly missing is the re-introduction of charging in the evenings to deter driving in the CCZ at the time when pedestrians are most out and about in town. tfl.gov.uk/info-for/med...

Speed was a factor in over 60% of collisions in Enfield in last 5 yrs. Great to see Enfield Council introducing new 20mph zones in Edmonton, Palmers Green & Southgate. Crashes fall approx 40% after 20mph zones are introduced. This will save lives! letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/20mph

...and more really good work in the pipeline in Newham. Super impressive is the amount of greening that the borough is getting into its schemes and how well maintained it is. Well done @plaistovian.bsky.social and colleagues.
This week construction started on the next phase of Newham's Royal Dock Corridor - in partnership with the GLA. 🚲Protected bike lanes 🚗Safer speeds ☔️🌿Planting & SuDS 🚶Safer crossings & pedestrian connectivity 👏 @plaistovian.bsky.social & team
Thanks so much to you John and colleagues for a brilliant tour of the Royal Docks Corridor. This scheme is vital for not just people in Newham but also has big lessons on how to tame main roads and make them much safer, greener and more pleasant places.
Fantastic to show @livingstreets.bsky.social around the Royal Docks Corridor today! The improvements are already making a difference — safer crossings, greener streets, and better spaces for people. It’s exciting to see how the corridor is becoming a welcoming, people-first route. 🌳🚶♀️🚲

Fabulous news James. LB Newham has done a great job making it easier and safer to walk, wheel and cycle in recent years. Please keep up the excellent work.
Yesterday we launched the Royal Docks corridor as work comes to an end. A road built for industry now has wider pavements, separate cycle lanes, new trees, flower beds, new lighting, play equipment & new crossings. Now safer & more welcoming, fit for the fast growing local community & businesses.
Early days but great to see St Martins Lane included in @london.gov.uk Summer Streets. It will be car-free from 11am to 11pm (until 31 October); 20 businesses hv applied for licenses for outside dining. Hopefully the start of it becoming more fully pedestrianised. www.london.gov.uk/programmes-s...
2 years of default urban/village 20mph in Wales has resulted in over 1,000 fewer killed or injured. The data shows a 25% reduction in casualties on the 20/30mph roads. Drivers gain with damage risk, crashes and premiums down. Well done Wales. bit.ly/4ppl030
Good to visit Hammersmith Bridge and see people enjoying walking across the bridge. Well designed with lots of separate space for people walking and wheeling and people cycling. So much quieter and calmer on Castlenau on the Barnes side of the bridge.
Don't forget next Sunday 21st Sept - car free #OxfordStreet from 12noon to 8pm. Large section of the street to the west of Oxford Circus will be car-free.
Car-free day closure of George St in Richmond by LB Richmond-on-Thames brought out large numbers of people to enjoy the town centre and support the shops and local businesses. Hopefully the start of a much bigger project to give more space to people in Richmond town centre.
