It is great to see the 2026 Summer Seminar underway at VMI in Lexington, Virginia. Would it be a SMH Summer Seminar if it didn’t involve a stack of military history books?

Keep an eye out for the forthcoming volume Teaching US Military History, eds. @bethbailey.bsky.social & Andrew Preston via @universitypress.cambridge.org. Since US history is a history of ongoing war, the book is helpful for all teachers of American history. My blurb:
We're back! Building on the success of our inaugural conference last year, we are delighted to announce its return with the new theme: Beyond the Battlefield🗡️ The conference will take place at the University of Exeter on 2-3 September. Deadline for abstracts is 22 May. Please circulate widely!
In honor of Memorial Day, I'll be running a 10% off sale on custom maps related to #militaryhistory (broadly defined) for anyone who contacts me by the end of May. May be of particular interest for members of @smh-historians.bsky.social
Sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Stanley Falk, a distinguished military historian whose impact extended beyond his work. His life, presence, and commitment to the field shaped both scholarship and those who knew him. He will be remembered.
We’re back! We are pleased to say the next issue of the BJMH will be published next week, on Friday, 17 April. It has been a long wait but we have a bumper edition with 8 excellent articles and 2 research notes. As always, Open Access and free to all at journals.gold.ac.uk/bjmh/

This year’s Society for Military History conference has been an absolute joy. It’s so great to be around fellow historians and growing from different perspectives! Big thanks to @craigbrucesmith.bsky.social for leading such a great panel! #SMH2026
Another great pair of papers from @abbyswhitlock.bsky.social and @edgitre.bsky.social at #SMH2026, on Army Talks and GI Roundtables, and segregation and desegregation in the SWW respectively.
Hi #SMH2026 students, postdocs, early career scholars, & @cornellupress.bsky.social #MilitaryHistory book fans! I have great and unsurprising news: the display books need to find a home in your suitcase, because they will not all fit in mine. Stop by before noon tomorrow for a free book to help out.
Make sure to come sit in on the Keynote in Arlington Ballroom Salon 4, 1st Level.
