Asheville area friends! Check out this amazing event hosted by UNCA and facilitated by the indefatigable Erica Abrams Locklear. I can't wait to be in conversation with Dr. Nico Zegre (and the audience). Come if you can (and please register first)!

Come grab a pint and listen to some poetry! Tomorrow night I'll be reading from 6-7 at The Blind Elk Tap Room as part of the Appalachians on Tap series hosted by Lees-McRae's Stephenson Center for Appalachian Studies. A HUGE thank you to Catherine Pritchard Childress for making this happen!

My spouse on my lack of brevity in writing (and life, really): "You're like the Grateful Dead of academia. Here, listen to this 25-minute guitar solo, except that solo is a footnote." 🤣 I can put "Grateful Dead of academia" on my business cards, right?

Big news, friends! My new chapbook, Disposable, is now available for pre-order from Sheila-Na-Gig editions! HUGE thanks to Hayley Mitchell Haugen for her support and to Julia WD Harrison for the phenomenal cover art. sheilanagigblog.com/shop-sheila-...

I really wish Appalachian Journal and As the Crow Flies contributors (and potential contributors) could see the happy dances and hear the "oohs" and "ahhs" when I read y'all's work. Seriously. I'd post video, but I'd embarrass myself.

Had such a fun time at the ETSU Literary Festival yesterday (which was also Earth Day--hooray)! So wonderful to hear amazing works by emerging student writers alongside Nickole Brown, Rose McLarney, and Juan Martinez!

I'm thrilled to have a chapter, “Violence against the Land is Violence against the People: Land Management Tactics in Linda Hogan’s Solar Storms" included in this exciting volume edited by Jada Ach and Kristen Brown. Pre-orders are open now with a June 2026 release. www.routledge.com/Redefining-L...

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."

SUPER thankful to the brilliant Brian Railsback for editing a special issue of AmLit on American Literatures, Living and Dying in the Anthropocene: Responses in Contemporary Literature from the Western Hemisphere,

Breaking News! Code UFB!!! The daily CO2 number from Mauna Loa exceeded 430 ppm yesterday. This is the first reading above 430 ever recorded. CO2 levels have not been this high since the Pliocene epoch, 3 to 5 million years ago.

The House budget reconciliation framework that cuts $1 trillion from Medicaid has just passed. They are literally taking from the sick and poor to give the rich tax cuts.

The image is a screenshot of an MSNBC news broadcast covering a House of Representatives vote. The main portion of the screen shows a live scene from the House chamber with a vote tally displayed, indicating the results for House Concurrent Resolution 14 (H CON RES 14). The vote breakdown is:

Republicans: 216 Yea, 1 Nay, 3 Not Voting

Democrats: 212 Nay

Independents: 0 votes

Total: 216 Yea, 213 Nay, 4 Not Voting The bottom of the screen has a red "Breaking News" banner stating, "HOUSE GOP VOTES ON BUDGET DEAL THAT THREATENS MEDICAID."

On the right side of the screen, there are two smaller video panels:

1. The top panel features MSNBC host Chris Hayes speaking, with the show's logo "ALL IN" visible in the background.

2. The bottom panel shows a congressman in a suit speaking in a government building.

The broadcast time is displayed as 8:14 PM ET at the top left and 7:14 PM CT at the bottom right. The setting is Capitol Hill.
