The burnout has been crazy, but here's some finds from my latest little fossil excursion I took my partner on! He'd never been on a dig before and absolutely loved every second of it. Good morning, long time no post. I've been dealing with both a personal loss that hit me like an eighteen wheeler and burnout on top of it, but I'm back now and working on a new painted portrait of my dilophosaurus OC Oleander that I will hopefully post soon. Rendering is hard 🫠

Gonna hunt for sharks teeth tomorrow at the beach. Hoping that all the hurricanes stirred up some good stuff and that there's at least some big ones left out there. I think I'll pass out if I actually find a full Meg tooth and not a fragment for once. Here's to hoping for a miracle LOL. 💪🦈

Happy #FossilFriday. Here are the fossil remains of the Austrian phytosaur Mystriosuchus steinbergeri, which were discovered in the Dead Mountains of Salzburg. Estimates suggest it might have reached a length of around 4 meters.

The lower jaw and a piece of the snout of Mystriosuchus. The fossil is still embedded in a little bit of stone at the bottom. The jaws are slender and some teeth are still present. The tip of the snout is complete, but most of the skull behind the midpoint is missing. In the background there is an illustration showing three Mystriosuchus swimming, with one having caughta fish. They appear similar to crocodiles with short legs, a large and side-to-side flattened tail and osteoderm armor.
