Archives and dissertations, labor and libraries. Too much service. Shepherding CUNY history at @cdha.bsky.social. AAUP Council. Views my own. She/her, white/Mexican. Not actually Iranian. Queens is the future 💫 https://roxanneshirazi.com/

I don't find that video of those young Black people walking back to their campus uplifting or inspiring in the least. It should enrage every person and all of us of a certain age should be embarrassed that they have to do this in 2026.

Glad to see this. NYC Comptroller Mark Levine is official investment adviser to, custodian and a trustee of, the 5 NYC retirement systems that "are substantial long-term Target shareholders." He's demanding independent, 3rd-party review of their policies, property use, and any cooperation with ICE.

Tuesday morning, we rallied outside the Target on 225th Street alongside community leaders and elected officials to demand answers and transparency. Last week, Oscar Belgal was shot by @ICEgov agents while sitting in his car, his five-year-old child in the backseat.

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

We can no longer rely on our own institutional leaders and governing boards to "defend higher ed from political capture, fight to restore public investment, respect worker rights, and recenter student learning." I'm proud to be part of an organization of professionals stepping up to the moment.

These endorsements are the next step in a political strategy adopted last summer at the 2026 AAUP Biennial Meeting when members voted unanimously to help better position our union to fight back against systemic threats to higher education & build power to win a future for our democracy under attack.

Twenty-eight years ago today, after sustaining a vicious antigay assault, Matt Shepard succumbed to his injuries in a Colorado hospital. He should still be with us, as should so many other LGBTQ+ people lost not only to sudden, brutal attacks like this one, but also to the slow violence of hatred.

This pinned post has been updated! Banned Books Week annoys me because so much attention comes to this crucial constitutional issue for only 5-7 days. In an era when our freedoms are being attacked and books–and the people they represent–are disappearing, it's necessary to fight every single day.

A massive thread of resources, history, information, and material to help you not only fight and understand book censorship but protect the incredible democratic institutions of public libraries and public education. This is updated regularly!

Editors of journals published by Taylor & Francis - hi! - may be alarmed to learn there is an emerging view T&F will get bought by private equity after Informa announced it's dropping it. And we know what private equity does to its acquisitions. Guts them. As if academic publishing wasn't bad enough

Siobhan@siobhanh.bsky.social · 2w ago

Where does that leave us? Private equity. T&F has high margins, recurring subscription and transformative agreement income, a distinct business to separate, and a sale to PE would face the least competition law risk. Overall, this might be an attractive option for Informa.
