Can you guess what this picture is? It's an image of vitamin C, taken with polarised light. Vitamin C led to both the 1937 medicine and chemistry prizes: to Albert von Szent-Györgyi who first isolated it, and Norman Haworth for determining its molecular structure.

I am going to be joining in with The Concrete Gazebo at the 12 September experimental improv session, but there is plenty of good stuff happening at The Summer At The Beach event in Waterbeach (a cycle or train stop from Cambridge) over the next few weekends.

I missed the Southern part of England solar eclipse of 1999 as I went to visit the Czech Republic rather than Cornwall. Boots did mix up my photographs from that trip, so I did get someone else's eclipse experience photos, which were mostly just a campsite.

British electricity grid is on a real renewable (windy) roll this week and at the moment, during the day, we're exporting more electricity (to Norway, Ireland, Belgium and Denmark) than we're producing in fossil fuel generation. We often do this overnight - during the day is ... a bit more novel!
