Hello Kat, For a long time, I've believed that the life behind a book is often more interesting than the book's publication date or its sales figures. Readers remember stories, but writers remember the years it took to discover why those stories mattered. I'm Larry Niven. Over the years I've had the privilege of watching ideas that once existed only as notes on paper become novels that reached readers around the world. Some books found their audience immediately, while others took their own winding path. I've learned that writing isn't simply about imagination, it's about persistence, curiosity, rewriting, and continuing to believe in an idea long after the excitement of the first draft disappears. That's one reason I wanted to write to you. I'm far more interested in the person behind the pages than in the promotional description attached to a book. Every author has a moment that changed the direction of their writing life. Sometimes it was an unexpected opportunity. Sometimes it was rejection. Sometimes it was simply refusing to stop. I'd genuinely enjoy hearing about your own journey. Was there a point where you realized writing had become more than a hobby? Has your relationship with storytelling changed after publishing? Looking back, is there something your younger self believed about being an author that experience completely proved wrong? My own path has taught me that recognition is rewarding, but it never replaces the quiet work of returning to the next blank page. Every novel asks new questions, and every generation of readers brings a different perspective. That challenge has kept writing exciting for me after all these years. One thing I've also come to appreciate is that most people see the finished book, while very few ever see the uncertainty, revisions, disappointments, and perseverance that shaped it. Most places would, if some calamity meant a property had no phone or internet for an entire week, make some effort to resolve it or to compensate for it. @nationaltrust.org.uk ‘s approach was to email (!) my Mum who obviously *has no Internet access* to tell her to get a ferry to a cafe 40mins away
