"funny" that as mass, bipartisan opposition to data centers is becoming a major political factor, support for the Return of Nuclear Power (a major political force 40 odd years ago) is bipartisan and (relatively) unopposed

Occurs to me that we’re at the end of an ultimately very anomalous century-long evidentiary golden age during which it was extremely easy to produce an accurate visual/auditory record of reality, and relatively difficult to produce a false one.

Many people of JDV’s background who grew up there would absolutely recognize what he says about his background and the culture of that area as ringing true. Why the weird ‘gatekeeping’ over who can claim what background/ancestry? Why the distasteful move to claim authenticity/inauthenticty? +

one thing i respect about the UK is they’ll choose a prime minister and then almost immediately turn around and be like “actually we fucked up, this guy sucks”

Still processing that conservatives spent decades insisting that religious institutions and wealthy philanthropists should take care of poor and desperate people (rather than governments) and then the last few years insisting that both divest from empathy, charity, and philanthropy.
