Today, Lifeboat Saturday, I’d like to pay tribute to the many brave men and women who volunteer for the #RNLI, risking their lives to save others in grave danger. I’m appalled at the abuse and intimidation faced by RNLI crews in recent weeks. Let’s support and celebrate this incredible charity.

I wanted to speak on an amendment to motion EO2 Zionism is racism at Green Party conference today, but was not called on. I’ve copied over what I would have said in the next posts. I was heartbroken this amendment fell and that the vote went against providing this protection for Jewish members.

Text of amendment 3 to motion EO2 Zionism is racism

Safeguarding Jewish party membership

This amendment is to mitigate the possiblity that this motion could be used to achive indirect discrimination against practising Jews

Add after actions 2. ADD

This motion shall not be used to pressure, proscribe or discipline members based on affiliation with Jewish community institutions, such as synagogues, community centres or denominational groups, that describe themselves as Zionist or used to discipline or sanction Jewish members for expressing views that would be non sanctionable if expressed by non Jewish members such as (such as support for a binational state, or two state solution).

I am horrified and depressed that @greenparty.org.uk conference voted to declare Zionism is Racism. This new policy will lead to Jewish members being disciplined for not being sufficiently AntiZionist. The way Jewish Greens officers have already been attacked in the Canary and Tribune proves this.

It's three years ago today, by the Jewish calendar, that Hamas attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians including women, babies and older people, and taking 250 hostages, again, mostly civilians. And starting Israel's devastating, destructive war on Hamas in Gaza. 🧵 1/5

I will be voting against the Zionism is Racism at The Green Party Conference today. There are many reasons, but above all I feel the motion goes against my fundamental beliefs around consent, autonomy, agency, and self determination. These values are also enshrined in the Philosophical Basis..

The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.

Graphic showing a single lane 9 m wide track for metros, a 35 m wide road for buses with four lanes, and a 175 m wide road for cars with seven lanes, making the point that one single track of Metro replaces seven lanes of car traffic. Mobility in cities is about space.

So when Jews said that "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" meant the destruction of Israel, the world told us, don't over react, it just means calling for Palestinian freedom. Greens4Palestine have now cleared that up! Stop gaslighting Jews.

This motion is about the liberation of Palestinians from the ideology that suppresses them: Zionism. We judge Zionism by what it is in reality, not what it could be in theory. When we speak of Zionism, we speak of an ideology Palestinians have endured for nearly eighty years.

A third runway for Heathrow in the face of a climate emergency? The Government's own climate advisors say no! Ministers must withdraw support for this reckless plan that only benefits wealthy airport bosses, and support the buses and trains we use every day instead.
