🎙️ I went on go podcast() this week to talk about why I’m building Uncloud - Docker Compose for production, bridging the gap between Docker and Kubernetes. We covered: - why most projects don't need k8s and what alternatives we have - a hybrid setup mixing cloud VMs and on-prem 1/2

🎙️go podcast ep. 78 is out, we received Pasha Sviderski, the creator of Uncloud a tool that bridge the gap between Docker and K8, it's helping with infra / deployment on self-hosted servers and of course, built with Go. gopodcast.dev/episodes/078...

Thank you for sponsoring my work on Uncloud! 🙌
Hi @psviderski.name! Just sponsored you on GH! Would love to sponsor you via something else than Github to make it less sticky, in case you move your projects somewhere else. Is there already another option and I missed it? Thanks for all your work!
Looks very promising and reminds me somewhat of taubyte.com Following to see where it goes, tho so far it kinda "feels" nicer than coolify
github.com/psviderski/u... omg this is what i wanted out of coolify
Finally sent my first newsletter: A year of building Uncloud (a simpler Kubernetes alternative for small teams and solo developers) What happened, where we are now, and what’s coming in 2026 open.substack.com/pub/psviders...

First income from my open source work! Someone actually paid me to bring back 2015 Docker vibes. Some reflections 👇 It took me more than a year to reach this point but I had no idea how much fun it would be. But only after a certain point, when I got a bit of attention.
I've been blown away by Uncloud and unregistry from @psviderski.bsky.social, to the point that I'm actually enjoying deploy again! Build and deploy under seconds. No need for external container registry, all streamlined. Previous deploy metrics: k8s: 5min!. Swarm: 30s, Uncloud: < 5s. 👏🚀
io.Copy in Go is actually zero-copy on Linux. When you io.Copy between TCP connections it automatically detects the WriterTo/ReaderFrom interfaces and uses splice() syscall under the hood.
I’m back to the drawing board. Designing the main deploy flow uncloud was essentially created for. Integrating unregistry to make a kick-ass DX. Just one ‘uc deploy’ command:
Love developers spreading kindness on GitHub and Discord. It doesn't take much but makes a total difference. A special shout out to @luislavena.info who just had a baby but still champions sleep-deprived testing and early adoption. This is amazing! Be nice and attract more love! ❤️
Uncloud v0.12 brings full Caddyfile support to your Compose deployments Configure reverse proxy per service: - custom routing & redirects - auth & headers - dynamic upstreams with {{upstreams 8080}} - inline or load from file with x-caddy Docs and release notes in 🧵
Ever wanted your Docker containers running on different hosts to securely talk to each other without exposing ports? Here's my guide on using pure WireGuard to make this work across clouds and even behind NAT +a sneak peek at Uncloud, the tool I built to automate it all uncloud.run/blog/connect...
How to connect Docker containers across multiple hosts with WireGuard | Uncloud
Learn how to configure a WireGuard overlay network that lets Docker containers securely communicate across multiple hosts. No exposed ports needed.

Managed to deploy docusaurus-generated docs and a landing page (static html with tailwind css) as one bundle of static html such that: / → standalone landing page html /docs and /blog → html generated from markdown Finding the right incantation was non-trivial 👇
Uncloud looks super promising in this space. The power of docker without the overhead of k8s > no central control plane to maintain. Each machine maintains a synchronised copy of the cluster state through peer-to-peer communication 🆒 uncloud.run
Self-host and scale web apps without Kubernetes complexity | Uncloud
Take your Docker Compose apps to production with zero-downtime deployments, automatic HTTPS, and cross-machine scaling. Self-hosting made reliable without the complexity.
uncloud.run
Is anyone working on a K8s alternative? Kinda curious.
Docker Compose spec allows extending it with arbitrary fields prefixed with ‘x-’. People use this to define common blocks e.g. env vars and reuse them with yaml anchors. Uncloud extends the service spec with ‘x-ports’ to publish container ports as http(s) via the reverse proxy 👇
Had a chat with a guy who still runs Rancher 1.6 at their company. FYI it was killed >5 years ago. They’re looking for alternatives which are not k8s but are not happy with any, and uncloud isn't quite there yet.
TIL about terminfo, a technology from the 80s. It's a database at /usr/share/terminfo that tells TUI programs how to control different terminals. Like how to clear the screen, print colors, or what capabilities are supported. Programs access this info using libraries such as ncurses or tcell.
This looks sick. github.com/psviderski/u... - habitat had many similar design goals. I love that the swing here is "just docker". Great work!

Woke up to find out my friend x.com/megaserg is sponsoring me on github! Thank you for believing in my work mate! ❤️
I'm so grateful to people who take their time to create issues on GitHub reporting bugs or asking about features. I rarely do this myself unless it's really critical for my use case.
This is huge - I've got my very first open source sponsorship! 🥹 Thank you github.com/reorx for believing in Uncloud, this means the world to me! 🙏 Let's make the dreams come true!
All I want is a Renaissance of the unbloated focused Docker tooling we were building before k8s shut it down and replaced with tasteless enterprise monsters. Emerging from a dark age of complexity into enlightenment 😅
There's a massive class of web apps that just need a database and a bunch of containers scattered across a few servers.

I’m not giving up. I'm doubling down. I set a goal for Uncloud to hit 1K🌟 this year and finally get some visibility — or perhaps give up otherwise. Last week my friend and I released unregistry (a tiny subproject) and it hit the front page of the orange site.
