Ok, I'm starting a thread of climate and weather extremes that are eye-popping that I will continuously add to (reminder that Big Oil continues to take in record profits at the expense of our planet):

Check out this great blog by my colleague at UCS. The climate isn't just changing-- it's already changed. And Big Oil is announcing record profits while the world is on fire...

A catastrophic global wildfire season is underway, while fossil fuel companies announce record profits and push for legislative immunity. Hear more from @ucs.org Policy Director Rachel Cleetus on fires in a changed climate.

There are a lot of climate-related extremes happening around the world right now (40% of the oceans are experiencing a marine heatwave, heat domes, wildfires, super El Niño...). Come listen to us discuss these events and how they're related to fossil fuel-driven climate change tomorrow!

From record marine heatwaves to a developing super El Niño, UCS climate experts Erika Spanger & @marc-alessi.bsky.social take a closer look at what's happening in our oceans and what it could mean for the months ahead. Tune in tomorrow: youtube.com/live/o4-WMpEpilg

UCS’s @marc-alessi.bsky.social joins the discussion on Your Call’s Authoritarian Playbook Series, where they talk about how the Trump admin’s environmental policies are accelerating the climate crisis by gutting clean energy projects, boosting fossil fuels & attacking agencies & scientists.

The Authoritarian Playbook: Trump's assault on climate & green energy

As millions in the US experience record heat waves, the Trump administration is accelerating climate change by gutting clean energy projects and boosting fossil fuels.

Just a reminder that Exxon hired its own climate scientists in the 1970s/80s who accurately predicted climate change... They then covered up their own scientists' work and pursued a campaign of disinformation starting in the 1996 so that they could continue profiting off the destruction of Earth.

Lunchtime temperatures are already pushing over 95°F (35°C) across much of the eastern U.S. today, driven by a large heat dome pattern. We also know that human-caused climate change is making these temperatures at least 5 times more likely, as well as increasing the chance of dangerous humid heat.

Kudos to everyone involved in this monumental effort to help communicate our science! I'll speak tomorrow (Wednesday, June 3) at 4pm ET/1pm PT about the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season. With a little eastern Pacific discussion sprinkled in because come on, it's me. :)
