One of the many odd things from these academic freedom avengers: "He should be able to work on this completely discredited idea because he's a philosopher." I guess they think it's a soft bullshit discipline that must/can be completely divorced from other knowledge. Fuck philosophy I guess?

telling that periodically someone would go "man dolly parton can't really be all that" and then they'd go look into it and come back with "actually she's even better than we thought"

1) looks interesting and I wonder if this would work for neural data 2) o no, yet another thing called bonsai

I’ve been hearing this stupid “Get totally wasted without a hangover with our supplement!” ad everywhere and when a youtube lawyer yelled “Proven effective. We read the whitepaper and so should you!” I snapped and did it. Also, the phrase “rough mornings after drinking” should be banned.

This talk also sounded the most alchemical about LLMs. The model only works when the correct incantations are used (you're smart! you're creative!) in combination with the right kind of markdown sigils (*_*). Very Rudolf II

While I’m on the topic of still being annoyed by a conference that happened a month ago: I’m in systems-neuroscience (sorta) and was looking forward to Ken Harris’s talk. Instead of new exciting things, we got: 1) a re-introduction to perception as manifolds (it’s fine) and 2) the Big New Thing

Catching up with my post #FENS2026 notes and I came across something that still bothers me. I'm more frustrated than anything else, so 🧵 In the Brain Debate, the panel discussed what arguments to make to elected officials in favor of the continued use of experimental animals in (neuro)science.
